I was wondering, how can we get a discussion on this started? It seems that many countries ban this practice out right. I am not an expert in this field and am not trying to sound like one. I believe we need to begin a discussion about water fluoridation in Winona county.
This all began one day when I received the Winona Water Quality Report. I am not sure how many people actually read this report but I found it quite interesting and examined all of the detected substances in our water supply. The substance Fluoride aroused curiosity in me. This was mainly due to the description it had under "Typical Source of Substance" which reads "Additive to promote strong teeth; erosion of natural deposits; discharge from fertilizer and aluminum factories." I did a little further research and found out that fluoride is actually a toxic byproduct of the aluminum industry; who actually sell this toxic byproduct for use in fluoridating water supplies. This really sparked my interest so I investigated further.
I was watching a news segment where Tennessee state representative joey hensley M.D. was said to have written a letter to every district in Tennessee suggesting that all fluoridation be stopped immediately. The news segment featured on channel 4 news can be found here:
I contacted representative hensley myself and requested a copy of this letter he wrote. Mr. Hensley kindly responded to my request and provided me with the following link to a pdf photocopy of his letter:
After seeing the location of that pdf, I investigated http://www.fluoridealert.org/ where a great many people with high levels of education and expertise support the immediate ban of water fluoridation(M.D., Ph.D., D.Sc., Ed.M, etc...) This website also has a great deal of information related to water fluoridation and scholarly research relating to it.
Here is also another interesting video where award winning journalist Christopher Bryson is interviewed about his 10 years of research into water fluoridation and what he had found out, which he wrote a book about.
It is each and every counties choice to fluoridate their water supply, recent research has shed light on the devastating effects that water fluoridation has on the physical and mental health of not only children but also adults.
"Rats fed for one year with 1 ppm fluoride in their water, using either sodium fluoride or aluminum fluoride, had morphological changes to their kidneys and brains, an increased uptake of aluminum in the brain, and the formation of beta amyloid deposits which are characteristic of Alzheimers disease (Varner 1998)" The levels in Winona county are listed as 1.3 to 1.4 ppm.
I just wish to start a conversation about this topic. I do not know if water fluoridation is 'good' or 'bad' but I simply do not believe it is worth the risk of anyones health in Winona County. If a person would prefer to weigh the risk of their health they should be allowed to do that themselves… individuals who wish to consume fluoride could simply take it into their own hands by purchasing fluoride supplements.
