School board budget.
Just a few things I noted at the above site:
Assets are down from $25, 913, 540 in 2011
to 25, 650,234 in 2012
Liabilities are up from $23,202,,552 in 2011
to $24,789, 148 in 2012
**Sales tax collections are UP from 3,504,036 in 2011
to 3,671,566 in 2012
School Board pays 75% of health insurance premiums
Retirement rates are projected to increase another 2.7% 2013 -2014

** The Board estimates the sales tax they are asking us for this Nov. 16, 2013 will give them $690,000!(See Winn paper , July 24, 2013, p. 17A)
With all goods costing us more, I can't imagine the tax collections being that low. Their sales tax collections went up from 2011 to 2012.
So, Sales tax collections were up in the latest report, Assets are down, liabilities are up. Don't look good to me, but I'm not an accountant, just an overburdened taxpayer. I vote NO.

How about looking at cutting some expenses before asking for a tax. I know that people don't like the idea, but maybe we need to look at closing some of the schools.

From looking at the budget, I concluded that the School Board needs to cut expenses. They realize the economy is bad. We have had to cut back, so should they. They should be asking us for less taxes since so many are jobless. They also need to cut back on the percentage they pay for employees insurance. I have to pay 100% of my health insurance and now they are asking me to vote to pay a tax to be used to pay their insurance? Not many people can retire after only 20 years of service with such good benefits either. We are still working way after 20 years of service , yet our taxes are going to pay for their early retirement and they still have time to work at a job and pay social security and draw another retirement. We work 40+ years for one retirement because we don't have an early out with pay. Just my opinion.

Don't you think we could help them decide to do that very thing if we all voted against their tax?

The superintendent makes too much money and just got a raise less than 2 yrs. ago. Cut his salary back and also cut the salaries of the other fat cats at the central office!

Look at the teachers that are now in charge of "programs". That's where all the money is going. As long as this board utilized COMMON CORE I will not support anything they ask for. Period. Look up Common Core, you'll be shocked.

Thank you. I found Common Core will be teaching our children

"Executive Order 13423 of January 24, 2007
Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transpor-
tation Management" and other federal documents. Gone will be the classic literature that improves our children's minds. The Feds are taking over our children. Vote "NO" on any school board tax as long as common core is used in our schools.

I agree let's cut some first. We have a superintendent that has gotten raises also every time I've needed to talk to him he is out of the office? Ok let's move on we have several board members that were asked to be voted in let's cut there salary it's a second job for most and it takes our tax dollars. Give them all a flat rate we shouldn't be paying one more than the next just cause your the president, it's shown that he's not even at most meetings. So I say cut them all we have a superintendent to clarify vote. I personally feel it's all dirty I've need to discuss matters with our school board they were pushed aside I had to go through baton rouge office to get my answers. I say they all nerd pay cut and be tooken off the gravy train. Go back and look through all the meetings and see who was present and not if you miss work at a regular job you don't get payed this should be no different. I say no one any tax.

States that follow the Common Core curriculum
will receive increased federal education funding The administration is trying to turn Common Core into a national curriculum. This is nothing more than the government using money stolen from the people to bribe states into accepting federal dictates.

Taxpayers of Winn should reject the school board tax proposal since they will be already getting our tax dollars from the federal government to dumb down our children.

Your children aren't going to like reading federal government reports that is so much of the curriculum, as I understand it.

Ask the teachers in your parent/teacher conferences about Common Core. Ask to see lesson plans, textbooks, etc. You WILL be shocked. This is serious, folks. This is dangerous. Just the fact that "it's a grant", and all the other bunk they're putting out, does not justify the compromise to our children's education. PLEASE do your research, parents. It's late in the game, but maybe not TOO LATE.
Thank you so much for the warning. We should all know by now that when the Federal government uses money it has confiscated from us to fund a program, it also dictates how and what the money is used for.
We all should also already be aware that when the Federal government wants to take over the minds of our children they do so by dictating what lessons can be taught in our local schools and issues lesson plans to implement their plan. Our children belong to the government when they get through brainwashing them. Remember Nazi Germany under Hitler?
Vote against any tax to fund this dangerous "education". Save your children!!

See this: http://news.yahoo.com/obama-math-under-common...

4x3=11 is OK as long as child can give a faulty explanation of how they got the faulty answer. This is Your children's future in MATH under Common Core.
Vote against any and all school tax until the administrators using our tax dollars decide to teach our children instead of slopping through garbage and deliberately permanently destroying our children's minds.

If we defeat this tax everyone will have to get out and vote, because all the people and their families who feed at the school board public trough will vote YES.
We should reject Common Core for our children's sake.

The teachers & school board office have no choice about common core. You have your lovely state officials to thank for that. It is mandated by the state that every public school teach it. Now the private schools, well, they can teach whatever they like.

That is one reason we should defeat any tax. Take away the funding for all the insane programs government is trying to shove down our throats and take our government back. Save our precious children from all the mandated federal/state/local dumbing down curriculum.

But you're still not going to get the results you want. Not passing a tax will not defeat common core. They will still have to teach it just with less money. If you oppose the tax be ause of salaries, insurance, etc., that's a valid reason. However, trying to defeat common core, is not something that can happen at a local level. If common core is your beef, then do some research on the state level on the LA DOE website & legislative archives and you'll see that it is not a local decision.

Opponents of Obamacare are finding that one way to stop it is by defunding it. Voting against these taxes is similar. If the school boards find that the voters are choosing to cut off the flow of money, then the school boards will be more motivated to lobby the state legislature to get them to address the objections that the voters have. Voter action happens at the grassroots.

Is more taxes needed? Or is there waste or too much paid for retirements, health care, etc.?
