Haven't seen anything about not supporting deputys or that they don't do go work. Glad to see them out on patrol. Ive noticed that alot lately. But I do not support more tax's and never will. If a few want to contribute write a check and give it to the sheriffs office. Everyone in this parish did not fall of a turnip truck. Make do with what we have and be thankful.

Deputies in this parish make over 2k per month. Thats over $12 per hour. Pretty good considering the average pay around Winn. They also have free transportation, food free/half price at a couple of the eating establishments. Pretty layed back job till they have to get into a fight, which is not that often. I support them with my wallet and taxes, but Im not willing to keep giving in when they are spending so much for nothing.

I grant that one cent may not be much if you just consider that penny by itself. The problem is that when the SD gets a penny, then the city wants another penny, the parish wants another penny, the school wants another penny, the state wants another penny, ad nauseum. It never ends and it does add up--it adds up big time. As pointed out, Bodie hopes it adds up to $2 millon. Maybe that is not big bucks to you, but it is to me and to almost every one in Winn Parish. We all live or try to live within our budget--government should try to do the same. Just a reminder. When the income tax was first introduced in 1862, the rate started at 3%.

There is a day in the month of May that is called tax day. I think it is May 21st. The tax paying American works from January 1st to this day all his or her income goes to tax's if youre honest. This is taking in effect of federal, state and sales tax. Add it up and this is true. At least we have a choice to vote on this one. Please pass the word on about this upcoming vote for the sales tax and lets nip this in the bud. A large majority of the voters will let this slip their mind and forget about voting against it. The threatening of property tax in the paper and on the radio is just a bluff.

What Sheriff Little has not told you is that a large part of the property tax given to the Sheriff is set by state constitution. He can't remove it even if he wanted to. Another fabrication in the life and times of Sheriff Buford T. "Bodie" Little. PS. Why don't he treat the Black Deputies as good as he does the White Deputies.

A penny here, a penny there, a millage increase here and there all adds up to us losing more of our money. How many noticed in the June 3, 2009 issue of the Winn Paper there is to be a public hearing of the City of Winnfield Mayor and City Council August 3, 2009 at 6:00PM in the A. Leonard Bldg. to consider levying additional or increased millage rates without further voter approval or adopting the adjusted millage rate and rolling forward to a millage rate not to exceed the prior years maximum?

You Know Nothing wrote: These vehicles were purchased using a grant. The truck cost the SO a total of $500.00. The expedition coming cost the SO $500.00. You people should really get your facts straight before you begin blasting on this website...and apparantly you dont know how difficult it is to make contact with some parish residents that live in the "boondocks" after severe storms when you are driving a car. I pray this new tax passes. Our law enforcement agency has to have this to survive. One cent is not going to hurt anyone. Some land owners who must pay part of that millage tax will actually save a little money in the long run. Our SO does have some problems but overall is a good department...and they need our help. It would be horrible for our parish law enforcement agency to reduce deputys and/or close its doors due to the refusal of help from the same residents these deputys took an oath to protect. I have never refused to help our local law enforcement community and I am not about to start now. If you are correct,I think the prudent thing for the Sheriff to have done would be to sell the vehicles and use the money and buy 2 or three good used vehicles to go out in the boondocks when the weather gets bad. before someone tells me, I know that would probably be against the law, we shouldn't use tax money wisely

Government sees to it we don't use money they consficate from us wisely. I imagine come election day in October many taxpayers will be given a chance to ride in one of those luxury vehicles -or a lesser valued automobile- from their front door to the polling place. Someone will be watching to see who hasn't voted and a vehicle will be dispatched to bring in those they believe will support the tax. That's against the law, too, but...

The SO needs us to support the sales tax & not be upset when the property tax renews. We can not expect Bodie to ran a model office and be able to brag about all his great work with the money on hand. You all know how good it makes us feel when we can strut and tell of our great accomplishments so please provide our SO with more money! If we were to see a list of all the people who receive money & how much we would be surprised the Sheriff probably does not make much over 200,000.00 a year.

Our great sheriff sure does like his picture in the paper. Hardly ever pick up the weekly paper without his picture in it..no matter if he has to tell of the same few arrests over and over as we saw in a recent front page article naming arrest made over a 3 month period that had already been in the weekly arrest reports . He had to run that by us again so he could have something for the front page headlines.

If he is so great, why does he ask for more taxes duing this time when so many are losing their jobs, economy is down? He should be able to operate on the money he has from taxes now, if he is so great!. If he had been great as assessor the tax base would be larger now becasue he didn't do that job right. Some properties were not even on the tax rolls. Perhaps you didn't know that though. The previous sheriff operated without asking for more money and the economy was much better then. Something seems amiss!

Effective 7-1-09 Sheriff Bodie gets a 4% raise while his deputies get nothing. Also it must be nice to fly off to a vacation on a Carribean Island while the rest of us struggle to pay our bills. He sure needs more tax money, but not from me.

Some of us made a huge mistake in voting for Mr. Little. A mistake I know won't be made next time. I would not listen. I voted my emotions. I wanted the pie in the sky and figured the grass was greener on the other side. I am sorry Mr. Buddy Jordan, I should have known better and I know a lot of my friends and kin people think the same way. State troopers do not make good sheriffs in most cases and I have learned this the hard way.

As seen in Winn Parish Enterprise-News American July 8, 2009, p. 8A, Bodie told Kiwanis Club, June 29,2009, that when he took over as sheriff "he was told there was no money to operate the office, that it was already in the red......". Why would he tell the Kiwanis Club that? That really shows his ineptitude. Hasn't he found out by now that "what he was told" was a lie, a flasehood, completely wrong? The Official Auditor's report of the outgoing Sheriff was available for all to read,(including him, the incoming sheriff) showing there was $534.183 balance with a liability of $40,000, leaving a clean slate balance of $493.802. Why is he telling us, the taxpayers, through the newspaper report of his talk to the Kiwanis Club . "he was told the office was in the red" , when he took over??? Well, Mr. Bodie, we are smart enought to recognize a lie when we see one, even if you're not!

If we all go vote no, we can wait this bum out and vote him out of office. Surely some decent person could run. Here they go from messing up one agency then get elected to another.

HA HA! But Dahling, Bodie cleverly hid THE LIAR this time! He (Bodie) is only repeating what he said "he was told". Now, maybe he was talking to himself when he heard that, I don't know. But another serious problem we have on our hands now is a sheriff who after this length of time in office is still listening to that hidden LIAR, repeating the whisperings "he was told" instead of telling the people how much money was in the coffers when he took over, and how he has mishandled the funds.. We recognize the subterfuge and chicanery. He thinks the hardworking taxpayers, the unemployed, the poor and the Kiwanis will believe that hidden LIAR if he repeats his message loud enough and long enough. Come on, Bodie---we know the truth. You don't know how to handle our money
