The color of local drinking water is based on the minerals disolved from the geological formation in whch the aquifer resides. Therefore our water is brown because of those disolved minerals but it is not unclean. In fact those same minerals are beneficial to your body. If you judge with your eye instead of the drinking water analysis results, your are hurting yourself. Our water is perfectly safe to drink and bathe with, when brown. However once it is treated with chemicals to make it appealing to the eye, or clear, then your chances of developing cancer increases tremendously. So what do you want... slightly disclolored water that is safe to drink and relatively inexpensive, or perfectly clear water that is expensive and will kill you.
I agree Winnfield water is perfectly good and good for us, but on your statement of "chemicals to make it appealing to the eye" is wrong. The clarity comes not from chemicals but from Ozone--the same gas released into the atmosphere during a lightening storm that makes the air smell so fresh. Chemicals are used to kill bacteria, but not to make the water clear. Our brown water has chemicals added to kill bacteria. We are paying a "clear" water tax to keep the ozonator running,so we can have clear water, but obviously the city doesn't keep it running.

I'm just tired of the water ruining my clothes. I washed my baby's new white dress...it came out looking like I soaked it in tea bags. My white towels are taupe. Of course, I can bleach the towels, but I can't bleach the clothes that have color on them as well.
Any suggestions....I don't want to throw brand new clothes away!
water is corrupt just like the town never gonna change. also heard about that saltworks deal with the water. so get the best filters you can get, don't know if they make them for washing machines though. last choice would be move but way up north best water ever

This is a real issue ., I've noticed it gradually getting worse . We have a white bath tub and sometimes it's hard to see the bath mat once the water has been ran! And not to mention it has an odor ..

For one thing do not use liquid fabric softner in them. You can use dryer sheets. You may try adding some baking soda to the laundry and always double rinse the baby clothes. If you can find it Sal Soda, a washing product, can help also. You may find it at large groocery store like Brookshires. Blueing is also good to whiten clothes without bleaching. Just use a small amount though. And the blueing goes into the rinse.

Although you may not see this, I washed my whites in Natchitoches when I lived there. I just make a trip every other week to save my whites and those of my brother's Winn Correctional uniform. Half of the men there are wearing orange shirts, which probably includes my brother since I've moved.
