Admittedly, according to an editorial critical of me and other posters on Winn TOPIX in this week's Winn paper ( September, 5, 2012), TOPIX is wildly popular . "How could you resist?" the critic avers.
He,( Charles Crain, Editor of Winn Parish Enterprise-New American) even recognizes TOPIX as the perfect forum for people to post anonymously their thoughts and opinions!

He claims someone incorrectly quoted a newsbreak as coming from him when it had not. I can
understand his outrage at that.
What I find offensive in his condemnation of postings on TOPIX thus, " it represents everything that is misconstrued about life in the south, the trash talking, the blatant racism and , most jarring of all, the illiteracy." "For every one poster who communicates with complete sentences, there are 20 who do not." "Why do you want to advertise your ignorance?"
Are succinct messages on cell phones offensive? Messages can be quickly transmitted and completely understood without using complete sentences. But the use of sentence fragments don't mean a person is "advertising your ignorance". There is certainly a place to use complete sentences such as in his newspaper, but to condemn a person as being ignorant when sending a quick message on TOPIX is not very compassionate.
The editorial condemns even further we, the people, who post on our forum, TOPIX , He says: " There are so many outrageous claims that are made there, mostly about our elected officials. " "I've got news for you; you are not an investigative journalist..." Oh, that further implies we are not qualified to post. We lack proper education.
That's about the biggest slap in our face as I can imagine. Where was the breaking news first revealed that the Feds were investigating our corrupt sheriff? Not his "newspaper"! NO, it was TOPIX. If there is a wreck or fire in our community it takes only seconds by some compassionate eyewitness to spread the news . How long does it take to get that in the Winn paper? I have to ask the editor,... no , I'll answer, myself...do you have investigative reporters all over the parish, the nation, or world day and night ? No, it is the grassroots in the course of their daily lives that see and hear breaking news because we are the hundreds of intelligent, watchful, wise, common sense people who get the news FIRST! AND WE LIKE TO SHARE IT WITH OUR FELLOW "COMMON" MAN. Much news shared on TOPIX never sees the light of day in your paper.
TWO last final quotes , for now, from the editorial by Charles Crain, as he says, " I choose to live my life as an honest, COMPASSIONATE (emphasis mine) and decent person." and
" Don't degrade yourself and others by contributing to negativity in the world" .
It seems I have read of crime in your newspaper. Not all news is "positive" you should know.

Methinks y'all doth protest too much--there are some intelligent and reasoned posts and arguments on Topix, but they are few and far between. If you are one of the few, Topper, then you have zero reason to take issue with Charles for pointing out what is painfully obvious to anyone capable of passing Business English: Topix is a joke full of barely literate nutters airing their grievances and a source of entertainment and despair in equal measure for many. You're doing a wonderful job, Charles--don't let the haters get you down :)

I, myself get annoyed with the PURPOSEFUL (I wish we could use italics) misspelling. People getting mixed up with their homophones (it's a plague on topix) drives me crazy. I also can't stand when people use "was" when they should use "were". That's more something you hear than something you see written on topix, though. However..........Topper I agree with you about the uppity attitude of the editor dude. It seems like the whole point of the article was for him to say "I'm smarter than all the other people around here because I JUST READ topix, not POST ON IT like everybody else does".

Who did he fool? We ALL know he is posting here on topix. If he wants to waste space in the newspaper then he has that right. He shouldn't lie about it. No one "just reads" topix. That article was the most outrageous thing I've read in a long time.

Ok stop Kissing Charle's butt long enough to read this. This is Winnfield, located in the South. I feel that I treat the English language pretty good most of the time. But just because someone does not choose to use good language skills all the time it is ok. I would never attempt to talk down to people as you are doing. You are a snob. Maybe Charles needs to get out of that air conditioned office and take a walk around town. He needs to really look at where he lives. And that rag tag thing called a newspaper is about as boring as cleaning out a refrigerator. I know this site can be a bit out there sometimes, but it is entertaining. More than we can say for that two bit paper. If I want to read a newspaper I pick up the Shreveport Times or read it on-line. If I want to expand my mind I go to the library and check out a book. At least the lead story there is not the same old stories over and over. The Enterprise even shows photos of the same people doing the same thing over and over. Oh, the Mayor had a lucheon and had five ladies all dressed in beige attending with all their daughters dressed in beige. Yawn!I would rather watch paint dry. Get over it cause Topix Rocks! Now go put on your beige jammies and watch Lawrence Welk re-runs.

I believe I'd be safe to say no one in Winn Parish would ever know that our TOPIX posts labeled as "gossip" by Charles Crain has a deep, deep cause. But here are the Editor's words: "Small towns like ours thrive on gossip..it makes up for the fact that we have no movie theater."
No movie theater! Bet that hits you between the eyes! Did you know that is the reason we write on TOPIX? You wouldn't have known that if the journalist with the inside track had not told you, I'm sure. Wonder why people in Shreveport, Baton Rouge, New York, etc. post on Topix? The editor further states, "you will never, ever see anyone from the Winn Parish Enterprise posting anything on that forum." Humph!! Why aren't they affected by the lack of a theater? They are a set apart group, I guess. Just us old common, grassroots fellows post because we have no theater.

That would make a real impact! Thanks for sharing that idea on TOPIX, where we can join together ..the people's forum. Trouble with me is that I've subscribed-paid in advance.

I was here when Winnfield was booming...tuff street was full of people...couldn't even walk on the sidewalk on Saturday so many people, had the Venus theatre and the Princess theatre, a swimming pool at the rec center, a drive in theatre, cafes, and if you didn't see Winnfield back then you probably don't believe me, and that paper was sorry then, and sorry now, rude snobby critters there..LOL...the legacy continues..........>

I tried putting the Enterprise in the bird cage and the bird went to sleep. When we bring in the Enterprise and set it down the dog takes the paper out, to the lawn that is.

In the editorial Mr. Crain said, " I don't expect anyone who reads this diatribe to suddenly stop posting on TOPIX, but I could not continue without clarifying this point again: you will never, ever see anyone from the Winn Parish Enterprise posting anything on that forum."

Really??? Something don't smell right. Perhaps he didn't make himself so clear after all. Does he really have control of his few employees after they leave his workplace each day? Does he have an oath from each that they have to answer to each day? Surely he meant they would not post while on his computer, don't you suppose?
