WINNFIELD, La.(KNOE 8 News)- Winnfield's mayor is speaking about the legal troubles surrounding his town.

This comes after the six-month prison sentence handed down to Winnfield Police Chief Johnnie Ray Carpenter, and the unrelated arrest this week of Winn Parish Sheriff Bodie Little.

Little and ten others were indicted this week on drug charges, related to the distribution of methamphetamine.

Just last week, Winnfield Police Chief Johnnie Ray Carpenter was sentenced to six months in prison, for getting in the way of an unrelated 2009 federal investigation. Winnfield Mayor B.R. Audhirsch says he contacted the Attorney General, to ask whether Carpenter should be paid as he serves the sentence.

"This is a misdemeanor arrest and conviction, instead of a felony. So I've asked direction on payment," Audhirsch says. "Some people think he should draw his check; some people think he should not draw his check. So we're depending on the attorney general to give us guidance and direction."

Carpenter was accused of blocking federal agents from arresting a suspect from Washington state in Winnfield two years ago.

When it comes to Sheriff Bodie Little, federal prosecutors say he helped with drug deals for a woman with whom he was having an affair.

Little denies the accusations in the indictment and says the charges are politically motivated.

How does the old Buddy Jordan bunch look to y'all now? Had a good honest bunch then and some fell for the greener grass on the other side. It would be easy to laugh now should it not be so serious and sickening.

Did anyone else notice our City of Winnfield trucks(yes, more than one truck)and crews working in the yard of the privately owned Woodlands Behavioral Center today ( Oct. 24, 2012)? They were loading BIG TREES that had been cut and were USING the city's big trash truck. Ground crews got out rakes to do a really thorough cleanup.
Our taxes are being used to pay for manpower and equipment to benefit(and save money for) a tax-exempt company. REMEMBER THAT THE NEXT TIME THE CITY SAYS THEY NEED MORE TAXES FROM US TAXPAYERS.
NO MORE TAXES!!!!
If you have trees that you have cut or limbs in your yard just call the city to send trucks and crews out to do the job for you.

I don't know how trees being cut got in this topic. But I have a view on this topic. The sheriff little is indicted for drug related charges an using his woman he has an affair with to help. If I'm correct in this !!! I believe he should have to sit in prison with NO PAY.

THE SHERIFF OFFICE IN WINNFIELD IS CORRUPT. I HAVE A BROTHER MISSING CHARLES PHILLIP WHEAT. THERE IS A TOPIC ON HERE. AS WELL AS A TOPIC DEAD BODY FOUND IN JORDAN HILL

BOTH ARE ABOUT MY BROTHER

MY BROTHER HAS BEEN MISSING FOR 7 MONTHS NOW. THERE HAS BEEN VERY LITTLE HELP WITH THE SHERIFF OFFICE IN TRYING TO FIND MY BROTHER.

YES HE WAS INVOLVED IN DRUGS WITH SOME KNOW DRUG DEALERS

WHY IS IT MY BROTERS CASE SEEM TO BE OVER LOOKED OR NIT INVESTAGED MORE BY THEM

SO WHEN IT COMES TO DRUG RELATED THE SHERIFF TURN FACE AN LOOK THE OTHER WAY.

WE ARE ALL HUMAN AN WHY IS MY BROTHERS BEING MISSING DON'T COMCERN THE SHERIFF OFFICE

THIS MAN WHO WAS INDICTED NEEEDS TO BE IN PRISON WITH NO PAY AN THE MAYOR THE DA NEEDS TO TAKE A HARD LOOK INTO THE POLICE AT THE SHERIFF OFFICE APPARENTLY THEY ARE NOT SERVING AN PROTECTING THE POEOPLE IN THERE CITY.
THAT US PART OF THERE JOB BUT SOME OF THEM LIKES THE EXTRA MONEY THEY GET FOR SELLING AN DISTRIBUTION OF DRUGS TO HELP THE DRUG DEALERS.

Little did I know when I posted the above observation this very morning that opportunity to vote against a tax would come so soon. Wed. Oct. 24, 2012 Winn paper has printed a proposition by the Mayor and City Council for a 1-1/2 % SALES AND USE TAX to re-instate THE TAX THAT IS expiring. The city of Winnfield is asking for this sales and use tax for a 10 year period to be used for solid waste landfill ( isn't this where the trees they hauled from private property this day would go?) and sewer treatment, and capital improvements and for "additional" funds for other "LAWFUL PURPOSES". Do your councilperson and you consider it to be LAWFUL to work our men paid for by this expiring tax to work on private property, using our equipment?
There will be a special election for this tax to be held Saturday, December 8, 2012. I'm sure they don't expect a big turnout on a Saturday in December, but city employees and their families , people for whom the city privately worked for will be there to vote YES since they receive benefits of the tax.
NO MORE TAXES!!!

I will go off topic, and forgive me please, there is corruption everywhere. We just know all the people involved personally here. Places like Houston, Tx, or New York City are so large we don't know everyone. So I mean no disrespect to anyone when I say winnfield is no worse or better than any other small town in the country.

Where does reform began? We know it's here as well as other places, but where do WE have the opportunity to make some changes? Right here at home! So are you willing to vote against the 1-1/2% sales and use tax that funds this wrongdoing right here where we live? Or do you like things the way they are and are willing to shell out your money to help all to continue as usual? We, the people have a chance in December to vote against the tax that is to replace the one that has expired. I say "NO" after seeing the unlawful use of our tax dollars. That is my message to the wrong doers.

How is Frances Wheat's post off-topic? The topic was Winnfield's troubles, and one of those troubles is that the WPSO doesn't seem to be investigating her brother's disappearance. There is also another man missing named Frank Smith/Cromer. There is at least talk of cadaver dog looking for that man, but that hasn't been confirmed. If a family member of mine came up missing, I would have no faith in them being found by the local authorities. I'm not saying this for the sake of putting down the local authoritieS; I say this because this is a concern.

I suppose you can try to tell me what I should do, from you location out-of-state, but I have my own way of protesting the Unlawful use of tax-paid property and manpower. I'll not vote for any new tax or re-instatement of an expired tax.

I'm guessing this "Topper" isn't the Topper from the Winn Parish Enterprise thread. I'm thinking a while back someone made a couple of posts under someone else's name. I don't remember whose name it was, though.

This whole responding to two different posts with the same words kind of puts me in mind of a certain person who seems to have disappeared, but that person aims her/his copy-and-paste posts at people who have made them mad in some way. I don't think even that person would go after "Taxed too much", since "Taxed too much" has never said anything to make her/him mad, and certainly not Frances Wheat. As volatile as that person was, they at least didn't start attacking until someone had made them mad, even though they got mad over trivial things. I guess we have a new copy-and-paste poster.

I have called an filed complaints but still nothing is getting done

So don't tell me what I'm not doing. It's what the sheriff office The DA an the mayors office isn't doing

If there is someone elese missing up there an they are putting more effort into trying to find that man. Then why the hell my brothers case isn't getting more of a effort by the elected officials that y'all put into office.

What do you feel the Mayor is supposed to be doing in the way of investigation of a missing person? Is that his job?

The mayor is over the police dept and the city, not the sheriffs dept and the parish. As far as the city picking up brush and trash inside the city limits, it's what they do. If you live in the city limits they will pick up your brush and trash as well. As far as taxes go, it's your right to vote on it and I encourage you to excercise that right! Is this a sales tax we are voting on? If it is, simply don't spend your money in the city limits. And by all means don't make use of any of the services provided by these taxes either. Off my soapbox now......

You missed the point of the one who reported seeing tax paid crews, equipment and trucks being used to pick up limbs inside the private yard of the Woodland's Rehab Center. That is private property and the taxpayers just picked up the tab for a private company and saved them lots of money. THAT IS NOT THE LAWFUL USE OF TAXPAYER'S MONEY!!! Yes, if we haul our limbs to the road's edge, they will pick up our limbs..that's what we pay for.
I urge all to vote against the new sales tax that will be on the ballot next month. The city has used our tax dollars unlawfully.
The city is asking us for a tax for 10 years and many are already predicting a slow-down in the economy and even a financial collapse. Vote NO MORE TAXES! These are tough times and are going to get worse. We don't need to give the city more to use for special interest instead of the good for all citizens. Already our utilities have gone up twice since this mayor has taken over and will go up again when the new meters are installed more than likely he warned, at least for "some".
city hands in our pocket

Those in government can never get enough of our money. Always dipping their hands in our pocket, instead of tightening their belts, like we have to do.
Minimum sewer rate in Winifield shown below:
July 2011 $12.00/mt =$144.00/yr
July 2012 $13.00/mt = 156.00/yr
July 2013 $14.00/mt = 168.00/yr
July 2014 $15.00/mt = 180.00/yr
Every council member voted for this increase; Ball, Demery, Junkin, Mattox, Miller!

There is a 7.69% increase in sewer fees just from this year to next year. Social security recipients are to receive a 1.7% increase which will have to be used to pay increased cost of medicare premiums.

ON top of the sewer increase the mayor has said he anticipates some will have higher water bills when the new meters are installed. He doesn't allow that maybe if our meter didn't work properly we have been overcharged for water. NO, NO! Error,
(if it' real or contrived, we have no way to know as our meter will be locked) is always in favor of the city. Isn't that odd?
And on top of those two increases the mayor and council will have a new tax proposal in a special election on December, Saturday 8, 2012 ballot to place a new 1-1/2% sales tax to replace the one that is expiring. This will be collected for 10 years if it passes. Everything you purchase, except food and medicine will be taxed so the city will have more money they can spend removing limbs from the yards of private property. the rest of us have to take our limbs to the curb.
We can see how the retired , unemployed and underemployed people are growing poorer and poorer. I suggest NO MORE TAXES. Let the city use the money they have Lawfully instead of helping rich people by removing their great pile of limbs in their fenced in private property.

If the sales tax is not reinstated they will just raise property taxes. The city will get the money it needs one way or another and I for one as a home owner am for the sales tax. I want everyone to pay their fair share, not just those of us who have worked hard to actually buy a house. People who are unemployed and living in government subsidized house would be more than glad to put the burden solely on me with higher property taxes and higher income taxes. The sales tax allows everyone to do their part. Even the drug dealers. And if you don't want to pay any taxes, don't make any purchases, but look around and you won't find a much cheaper sales tax rate in the area. Just this employed landowners perspective.
