I have been a subscriber to the Winn paper for many, many years. I am also a frequent poster/reader on TOPIX. The electronic media is making inroads into the printed page for obvious reasons: on the internet we can have instant news of local/national/world happenings, local eye witness accounts, personal experiences, "talk on the street" that usually results in a printed story weeks down the road, help in any conceivable situation ( a recipe, a computer problem, pest control, find a carpenter, mechanic, or any other thing where tips are needed--in other words "neighbor" sharing with "neighbor"). You can't find this in a printed weekly newspaper. I have been under the impression that a local paper and TOPIX forum could be compatible as each has its function.
But we have the editor of the local paper writing really scathing, degrading things about we who post on TOPIX. I resent that! He presented the illusion that he and his staff are far superior to us and we will "never, ever see anyone from the Winn Parish Enterprise posting anything on that forum."
Here are some of his remarks ( read his full editorial in Winn Paper Sept. 5, 2012 p. 4A): "I will never post on TOPIX : it represents everything that is misconstrued about life......"; "most jarring of all, the illiteracy...." "why do you want to advertise your ignorance?"
"TOPIX does not mesh with how I choose to live my life: as an honest , compassionate and decent person." ( so we posters don't live up to his personal standards and that's OK, but to downgrade us posters is not acceptable to me), Crain says, " Don't degrade yourself and others by contributing to negativity in the world" ( but he is very negative to posters- I don't like hypocrisy!), "..so many outrageous claims that are made, mostly about our elected officials". "I've got news for YOU; (emphasis mine) YOU are not an investigative journalist..." ( See the put down of we, the people, who post on TOPIX?) Many posters also read his paper, but it really turns me off his publication when he begins to put TOPIX posters down and claims such superiority over us, and indicating that ONLY his paper can be trusted because they are journalists, they are educated, they make complete sentences. We, posters are only "advertising our ignorance" don't know anything about what is going on although we see it and hear it everyday, we are not trained.
Isn't that enough to turn one off from continuing to financially support the one who has so put us down??
I doubt it will happen, but if we refused to buy his paper, we who "advertise our ignorance" by posting on TOPIX could probably change his mind about us.
Are you willing to boycott his paper until he feels the pinch? A month? Six months?

I enjoy reading and posting on topix. I do NOT believe this newspaper man who claims he doesn't post. I am willing to boycott buying the paper for a month. Thank you.

I read Topix about once a week - I read the paper also. I take both with large grains of salt. There are good people who post on topix, but there are a lot who post just to stir things, or say awful things about people. Crain's editorial about Topix does not offend me - I really don't care what he thinks. However, there is some truth to what he says. There are a lot of personal attacks on here, gossip, and some untruths, or at the very least, partial truths. One thing that I do hate is when someone posts a serious question about something they need to know, and fools come in and post idiotic remarks for no reason. If you don't have an answer to a question, why post something stupid on it? On the other hand, sometimes you find out about things that happen a lot quicker than on news. There are good and bad things about Topix - you just have to ignore the bad stuff when possible.

I agree. When I see a post with curse words, the first curse word I come to, I pass on over the remainder of that post. If they had anything to say, it was lost on me. As is found everywhere, there are "bad apples" who don't want to help a fellow man with answers to serious questions. I pass over those frivolous answers
too. Someone nice will come along later to give an answer. I don't like hypocrisy and I don't like someone to assume a superior position and look down on people as was exhibited to me,several times in the editorial.

Yes! Let's all get back to serious things. For example, I wonder why the woman's urine smells like onions.

If all 27 of you who Post on this forum regularly stop buying the paper they will lose 21.75 a week, they should go broke in about 1256 years. Keep your boycott going.

Did anyone else notice that the Editor incorrectly used the word Peruse in his article about the Police finding some marijuana?

And he is preaching about literacy?

Does "you people" you include the EDITOR who complained in his paper about posters on TOPIX? Are you including yourself who is posting on TOPIX complaining about other posters on TOPIX? Just wondering.
