I guess denomination would be a much better word than religion. I feel Christianity is very important, that said, what proof do you have that he isn't muslim??
Seriously? You make the accusation that the man is a muslim and supply no evidence to prove your statement?

And then you have the nerve to say "well, uh, prove he isn't!"

Thats absolutely absurd. If you make a accusation, you should back it up with facts. That's called the burden of proof. If you're gonna play the game, learn the rules.

"NEW YORK – As a student at Harvard Law School, then-bachelor Barack Obama’s practice of wearing a gold band on his wedding-ring finger puzzled his colleagues.

Now, newly published photographs of Obama from the 1980s show that the ring Obama wore on his wedding-ring finger as an unmarried student is the same ring Michelle Robinson put on his finger at the couple’s wedding ceremony in 1992.

Moreover, according to Arabic-language and Islamic experts, the ring Obama has been wearing for more than 30 years is adorned with the first part of the Islamic declaration of faith, the Shahada:“There is no god except Allah.”

Sickening. The lying. The deceit. I've been feeling that he's muslim, but I didn't know about this ring. It may have been discussed before on political shows and I wouldn't know because I try to avoid talk of him on tv. Too much of a chance of a clip of him. I can't stand to see or hear him. You KNOW there would be some I'm-not-a-muslim explanation for the ring.

The article itself shows the author is completely ignorant of the Islamic religion and it's laws.

See, I've studied several religions and languages thoroughly. And the most amusing tidbit about all of this is that in the islamic culture, it is forbidden for men to wear gold jewelry or silk. They're considered feminine.

Here's docmentation on the practice from a non-political source.

Oh dear. Good eye, Winnfield. I didn't even notice the location. I also didn't notice the use of the word "clown" until I re-read it, looking for Ayreshire-speak. I guess I grew complacent in her/his absence; leading me to not notice she/he had crept back in. There were times (not many, but still...) when she/he actually joined a discussion; and made good points. This was GREATLY overshadowed, however, by the copy-and-paste rants; and it was so easy to get on her/his shit list. I wondered, when she/he went away, if she/he was developing healthier ways of dealing with people she/he got mad at. I guess we'll find out.

To me it's not about his race or religion. It's about him adding almost 6 trillion to the debt in 4 years and this is the 4th year with a trillion deficit. Deficits mean borrowing...He's done a horrible job, he's smug, arrogant and a liar and a racist. Someone like Col West or the pizza guy should have been the 1st real black president, not this breed who has no clue how many dads he has, as his mama took on the congo...like Debbie done Dallas, she done the jungle..

From that article. For people who don't click on the article, here's what Spartan and Carl are disputing.

“Though Islamic law prohibits the wearing of gold jewelry by men, it is a widely accepted custom, even in strictly Muslim countries,” he said.“The wearing of gold rings is even more acceptable when it contains a religious message, such as ‘There is no god except Allah.’”

He noted there is also widespread acceptance of men wearing gold jewelry in non-Arab Islamic societies such as Indonesia, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Pakistan, where Muslims generally understand that Muslims are subject to strong influences of local non-Arab cultures.

“Therefore, even though technically prohibited, a Muslim man wearing a gold ring is not looked down upon, especially if the jewelry reflects a love of Islam and a connection to Islamic society,” he said.“An even greater level of acceptance is for businessmen who deal with infidels, because such a person would be regarded as a person of influence.”

Nice cherrypick, but how do you refute the photographic evidence of the ring itself?

His performance is going to keep people from voting for another black president for a very long time. It's not right, it's not fair, but it's so. Some QUALIFIED, has-sense, isn't-completely-enamored-with -himself black candidate could come along in the years ahead and he won't win because people will say
"remember the last time we had a black president?" Again, it's not fair; but it is what he has done for future black presidential candidates.

Maybe the whole overlay thing.

I've been wondering about something. Are you a teacher? You are the only person on topix who demands footnotes :-)

The very idea that I come off as a teacher to you honors me greatly. Thank you. I am not a teacher. I just had great teachers through high school and college that drilled into the mantras of "show your work" and "cite your sources".

Doing things that way for me makes arguments far more solid because it's not just random figires. It also gives your opponent a chance to examine your sources for themselves. It gives everyone involved or just reading a chance to see the picture from both sides.

I'd vote for anyone over romney except obama..A true hero such as Col West could easily be elected. If obama gets a 2nd term our electric bills will skyrocket due to his ideology that we instantly go green, shut down the coal plants instead of getting them to clean up, or even the govt helping them clean up, and gasoline will continue to kill the working people having to drive to work because his EPA is killing drilling. The reason we have lots of oil produced in the US is because it's private citizens doing it, yet he tries to take credit for that. Don't underestimate us honkies, and obama is not anyone's friend, including blacks. The can man went there to DC and found out.

Too bad we're forced to vote for our choice of two undesirables. I wish there were a couple of candidates from each party on their respective tickets to vote for, that would be much fairer, and drop this crony electorial vote crap, count the votes and you have a winner.

There are only two serious candidates//Either Romney or Obama will win. The process cuts others out by denying them the delegate process, exculded from conventions, funds and national recognition...it's all rigged for the two parties..repub/dem..National 3rd party candidates even with national recognition,(Ross Perot-et-al)don't/didn't stand a chance/, besides, really honest decent people won't run because of the smearing of them and their families by the thugs in business suits.

the two party system has always been the bane of progress in politics. Personally, I'm a huge fan of Athenian democracy. 1 person, 1 vote. Abolish the electoral college, the house and the senate and let the people truly decide.

Of course on paper, this idea sounds grand, but the sheer scale of the country's population would make Athenian democracy very hard to keep track of and easy to exploit.

If you think about it there is only one major party in the USA. Rep/Dem= the Same; financed by the same big corporations, follow the same "in the background" world leaders. We have proof of this as we watch our country heading on the same disastrous course no matter whether it is democrats or republicans in the seat of government.
I would like to believe the people, by not voting for either major party could change that; but voting is rigged and our vote does NOT make a difference. The elections and debates are a pacifier to give the illusion that we have government "of the people" , while in actuality our voice don't matter.
There are hundreds of sites to go to to verify vote miscounting /reporting/ fraud, but this one shows testimony under oath of how voting machines can and are being rigged to affect the outcome of elections.

America has been taken away from the people and the reality will soon be evident, I fear. Detention camps to hold American without due process are already built, the government is stockpiling guns and ammunition , executive mandates that restrict our citizens, TSA, Homeland Security, mandates of food to be served in schools, are all designed to control the people. The Federal Reserve ( not federal or reserve) is used to manipulate our money and control interest rates, banks and inflation. IN other words making us all poorer. The fox is in the henhouse, America!!

If you don't want to vote for Obama than the solution is simple, vote against Romney.

although you don't vote for obama, any vote against romney is "technically" a vote for obama. if you vote the green party, the tea party, the freedom party, etc....
