This is nauseating. As a U of I alum, I am very ashamed on my alma mater. I really hope other good state schools will step up and become more popular options now that U of I has been so sordid in their lack of ethics with regard to admissions. Maybe if this state stops regarding Urbana as such a prima donna with overwhelming financial support to the exclusion of UIC, ISU and NIU, top students might feel that they have other options. I am really disappointed by all of this, especially since I worked so hard to get in (on my own), and now know others had rich daddy make some calls for their less than qualified spoiled brats. Guess we know why "rich and connected" is the name of the game in this crooked state.

Now we need to find out who the sponsors were for all the 'clout list' students.

Tell us which legislator, which politician, made the calls to University officials.

There's MORE than enough abuse of power to go around here. Let's make certain it all gets properly doled out for the police mug shots.

Once again, I have to ask the $64,000 Question.

WHERE is Lisa Madigan during all of this?

Why isn't there a Special Prosecutor with subpoena and prosecutorial powers?

Why isn't there a Grand Jury handing down indictments?

Instead, all we have is Grampa Abner and his toothless 'Blue Ribbon Committee' and a bunch of unsworn testimony.

Cry me a river. Less than 2% of the incoming class was on the so-called clout list. WHO CARES. Is this "gross injustice" worthy of week after week of Tribune investigative reporting? There are so many more important issues out there.

We need to know not only who the unqualified students' parents or sponsors were, but the names of the students themselves. They are all now adults, have reportedly cheated their way into state colleges ahead of others and need to be exposed. C'mon, Judge Mikva, stop trying to sugar-coat your findings.

Compared with the harm which "affirmative action" has done over the past 15 or 20 years, this is a pimple.

Okay...Sotomayor stated publicly that if it where not for affirmative action she wouldn't have made it her first university but went on to graduate summa cum laude.

So, let's see how many of these clout list used clout to graduate with honors and go on to successful careers. Or, is the focus only on the the pressure of power brokers and the U of I giving in? What's the difference in a forced law the forces unqualified AA students and unqualified clout students.

Forced is forced no matter the manner of that force. If you stop clout then AA should be stopped too.

Joel: "I didn't qualify for Princeton"

Joel takes a slow drag on his cigarette, repositions the Ray-Bans on his eyes.

Joel: big smile "Looks like its the University of Illinois"

Miles: dour look "Only if you're clouted on Category I - dipstick - better contact your State Rep. But since we're from the North Shore, you won't have to swallow"

It is way more than two percent of the students. If you were one of the kids that were rejected...you and your family would think differently...It changes everything.

Tell us what these important issues out there you want to discuss.

Its pretty funny how everyone back home thinks that this is a big deal, but everyone here on campus can care less about this. All we do is drink and have fun, we suggest that the Tribune do the same. Its College by the way!

Here it is. Stop your beechin and grab your linen. I gotz the solution.

Drum roll ... put your Margaritas down ...

Keep the Category I process but put in a finishing school requirement.

All recommendations and "clouted" acceptances need to be in by May 30th. The "gifted" applicant a.k.a. the Christ Child, then have 24 hours to report on by 5:00:00 a.m., June 1 to the Youth Correctional Facility in West Chicago (yeah, dat plaze der like in dat movie "Bad Boys" wit der Sean Penn guy).

If you survive Gladiator School for one month, then you get in to U of I der. If not, then the worthy applicant which you tried to bump gets in as of July 1. They can pack their linen and start their grinnin. Its "U of I baby" time.

Done and Done.

It fair, its street and it requires stones. Something those U of I executives, those elected officials and the legislative "oversight" committees don't have.

get over it

who are these students crying, "how did so and so get in?" Who the heck are they to decide? I can't believe that the counselor went and called U of I based on their whining about it. That counselor should be dumped from the high school. I never believed in this before, but I now think all these kids should spend some time in the military first. My son did--he didn't need his high school counselor, who had much better sense than the one quoted here anyway--to recommend him.

This "investigation" is phonier than hell. It didn't begin in 2005. Who do you guys think that you are kidding?

Show the names of all of the Clout Students going all the way back.

After that I would like to see which students from Harvard, Yale and the University of Chicago that also got preferential treatment.

Enough of this garbage "investigation" and story.
