From what I observe the lower economic strata seem to spend an abnormally high amount of their resources on gambling in general.
At best it gives only a flase hope to most.
Something has to pay for the glitz and glamour of the Casinos.
Only a small handfull of citizens actually get help from the Casinos.
That is my .02 worth
PS Do you know anyone who is better off from Casinos?

take a good honest look at the tribal leadership..whenever you steal from peter to pay paul..which has been an age old practice amongst the Omahas since the little hitler regimes. the practice goes get certain grants ...just like the rec center which was suppose to have a large swimming pool but looks like a large hot tub instead. What about the "classic car idea" looks like some one picked that idea up from the Las Vegas airport back in the day. How about the Big Elk park cabins that went to rot...then the old chicken farm or tribal farm..who got the farm equipment. Speaking of which, all the while poor Omahas were dying the tribal council relatives were selling truckloads of grain over in Iowa to buy the latest cars and party on ...also to buy their goons. but you never bought me. Face it every since the casinos came in such as the one down south...certain families have ran it and theivery has existed. When ever you have to wait for the casino receipts to cover government backed grant programs payroll..that should send up a red flag right there! While the Winnebagos up the road illustrate a better mindset in industrialism and encourage education by continueing to give money besides what the governemnt allocates. Let the children of the land have egual access to ed. money not just a few. That's where the real success will come from. A casino will not save you..when you get over to the other side it is your life experiences and the knowledge you take with you. The knowledge that you shared not how much you put away in feedlots, hotels, corporations all the while ripping off the sacred lands. That is the number one reason the tribe is jacked up as it is!

not so when only certain families run the show by vote ..good example the Omahas ....breeds next up it will be the illegals because the place has become a breeding ground..it wouldn't be so bad if they got educated or went some where to gain expertise..but some of these fools have made a carreer of sucking off tribal funds. I should know my side comes from the other side and are completely self-sufficient whereas these skins live between two cities and can't even hold a job or lack the skills, confidence to go anywheres...thats why they are becoming inbreds. Chief Blackbird ruled by arsenic..he had everyone fooled there for awhile but the truth prevailed as he controlled his Omaha people by giving them arsenic where as today the aresenic is the false promises of brighter tommorrow by lack of work and planning. The bones are rattling such as prophesised by the elders and Macy has a huge snake wrapped around also prophesied..so why do you think the deaths are becomming more frequent and vicious. The clan system is but a figment of the imagination...don't tell me it is the same as in the day of our grandparents. The people have become dysensitized to just about everything ...and the casino will only add to this..lust ...the history of Pow-wow also has a bad beginning ...ussually was a bunch of hang around the fort NDNs scaffenging for drink and anything else the whiteman would throw out the windows of the train. People like Ed Cline, ED Webster, all the embezzlers and their families have become master of manipulating but they forget one major thing...the creator is waiting for them. And every one thinks a casino will save the tribe ...no only the spiritual will...don't play with sacred things such as the land. Too many hang around the fort NDNs stroking each other ..go .. out go against the current and get a job, don't become wards of state of "group think" "ah-beem" you bemed we all "bemed"

Im inclined to agree with Devin Lonewolf and "Nebraska Historian", the Omahas financial situation is in dyer need of re-vamping, with people who ACTUALLY went to college and know what they are doing, all too often there is grant money missing or misappropiated to "god knows who", but they are never made to pay those monies back or stand trial unless its more then a certain amount, now the state wants to give them more authority over their judical system?, Are you kidding me? In my opinion, why doesnt the state just give every Omaha a weapon to kill them selves right now, the end result of giving them more authority, will be the same!!!!! Im a single mother of 4 but i raised my children off the reservation because i was never raised there and i cant imagine where we would be now had i done so, my heart bleeds for those omaha children who will feel the brunt of the actions of the tribe so called "leaders", and its people if things dont change,..YESTERDAY!!!!

Its sad to see so many negative comments about a tribe and its leaders. I dont know much about this tribe even though I live here in Omaha, Nebraska. You would think with this revenue coming in they would want it to go for what so many of our people have lived without. Like better homes and education for just to mention a few.

If these people who disgrace our U' Mon' Hon people are truly U'mon' Hon then they should be ashamed. Do not judge our people because of the actions of a few. Isn't this article about Gambling in Nebraska?
Maybe you have been a way from home too long or have never been here. Either way you should not tolerate the actions of what one or two people? I have been a care taker of my people going on 20yrs, many respectable accomplishments for the betterment of our people. I am but a simple man, I do not seek glory. I will tell you that I come from a line that is not even recognized in this day and age, Um' Pon' Tunga was my great, great, grandfather.......(An idle man enables evil to triumph, An evil man orchrestrates his own demise.)

Indian casinos are a scam! They murdered white men,Mexicans, Blacks and eachother. They make millions while everyone else loses money. The penny slots are are scams and are set for people to lose their money. One out of a hundred will lose. Google "River Rock" and "Seven Feathers Casino Resort". Do not let casinos open in your area! It's all a scam. Don't feel sorry for todays modern indian tribes!

Catch 22 doesn't make any sense. Casinos don't murder people. Anyway, the obvious purpose of a casino is to make money. No one is forced to go. Gambling is gambling is gambling. Nebraska has "scratch offs", powerball, pick 5, and little old lady bingo nights. Why not casinos?
