Does anyone know what this building is being turned into? I noticed renovations going on, and they paved the parking lot. Also, has anyone seen the tents in the woods behind alco? Are the people who live in those tents homeless? Haha....

Yes the person who lives in the tent is homeless due to a wonderful mayor. He tricked him into selling his house to him so he could make a profit and guess what. No that person who lives in the tent has been freezing at night. Been there during all that snow and thing. Wonderful mayor here will do anything to make a dollar. There is proof. Who cares who he hurts. He will get his time when he has to answer to God

I'd like to know because Iv got a little extra cash and I always wanted to be mayor! NOT!!! You all sound like a bunch a phucking idiots. Get a life.

There are too many free loaders in Monahans. There is work everywhere, yet some would rather draw off the public tit than get a job. Cut the welfare and dopppers off and force these worms to get a job. Tired of providing for welfare, cards abusers and general scum.

Well if it is something fun for kids, that's cool. But about the homeless living in the tents- that's very sad. There are tons of jobs around here, but I do know what its like to be down and out, even with a well-paying job. Hope they get their situation straightened out!=/

All u that say fuck the mayor need to do some research there is 2 oil rigs in monahans a hundred oil rig companies that cutbirth made possible so lets do the math take out all the oil = McDonald's DQ Pizza hut and all the other minimum wage jobs shutting down means instead of 1 tent there will be 100 tents and all you broke fukerz will have to find a ride to odessa every day since most dont have license due to no green card so guess you could try to move to odessa but wait that is where all the oil field workers in monahans will be living and its a who gots the most money world so oil workers will have first choice on housing

The only reason we have ALL these oil companies in this town is to line our mayor's pocket...who do you think it benefits?! His companies, NippleUp and Quail Petroleum! Let's do the math here. Do you see anything else besides oil companies coming into this town? No. Do we have new grocery stores? No. Do we have new retail stores? No. Do we have addt'l appt complexes? No. Do we have nationwide food chains? No. All we see are trailer parks popping up, and tell me, who do you think is behind that? If you don't work for him, you can't live in them. If you worked for him, are fired, then you are evicted. Talk to anyone who has worked for him in past year or so. Please, I HAVE voted for the other guy, but he still wins. I WOULD like to see him replaced, but not just him. We need to also work on the other powers that be that are choking this town and not allowing it to grow.

Guess if ur not in oil then you should stop being lazy and the whole eviction part is false if you work for him you live on his property for a discounted price if you don't work for him you can keep your rental but its gonna cost you.

OFT, I have a friend who worked for him and he left work for N/U to work elsewhere and the next day he was evicted. I don't consider $800 a month a discounted price, do you? I do work in the oilfield, but in an office. I travel to Odessa for work and also shop there. I would like to shop Monahans, but with one over-priced grocery store and one run-down retail store, there's not much quality products in either one. All the restaurants you mentioned were here before the oil boom and will still be here after it busts. None of these businesses came about because of the boom. The only change will be that the out of town people who came to work in the oilfield will move onto the next town and the locals who left stable non-oilfield jobs will go back to their former employees in the hopes of gettig their old jobs back. I don't live off welfare, food stamps or depend on others to take care of me. I learned a long time ago that you go further when you earn what you have or want!
