The answer is C - He lied.
Lied about children being happy to see the police? Ok, so YOUR kids weren't happy to see the police, is that what you're saying? I assume you were there since you are calling him a liar? I don't quite understand what this has to do with anything.

Read the article. The parent apparently wasn't there because they're offering a reward for the names of the police officers. I thought this was going to be some slanderous lie, but all he said was that the kids were glad to see the police?

You didn't post about this on the other thread. I think I know why you're saying these things now. You have a grudge against this man.
As I said in the other thread, if you have evidence of this man's criminal behavior, you need to contact the County and State authorities. If not, you are neglecting your responsibility to your children and community.
Based on what MommyX4 has posted, this is exactly as I thought. This is a parent that has a couple of good kids and one that no one can control. He's 18. He is responsible for himself now.
My hope is that Mayor Barrett publicly states the reason for this dismissal. If it boils down to that Facebook Post then he should have grounds for wrongful termination and it will cost that little town dearly.
I'm also seeing that none of you are perfect parents. I hope you won't be held accountable for your adult children's actions.
This is a sad day if these are the facts. Sad indeed.
Harrison does have 2 wonderful children. One is married with children of her own, active in the church. The other is in the band at Marshall doing wonderful. It's true that they have had issues with Payton. No one knows all the things they've done and tried to do with no avail. No one knows what they are going through right now and the hurt they feel. I met Pastor Harrison and his wife at a very rough time in my life and they (as complete STRANGERS at the time) helped me in SO many ways. Over the years I can honestly say that I haven't met better people. They give of them selves unselfishly and out of love. I am awaiting the word from the mayor on what the exact reason for terminating was, although I already know. This is a very sad day indeed.

I too am proud to say I know this family. Harrison and his wife are 2 of the most HONEST, loving, kind Godly people I have ever met. I too want a public statement from the mayor as to why he was fired.

There are exceptions to every rule. People bring suit for wrongful termination every day even though most states are work at will states. Does he have a contract?

Payton has more problems than the facebook post...like getting caught with a gun at school? Hmmm...wonder where he got a gun? And yes, he is 18, but still a student and still living under his parents' roof. People aren't held accountable anymore...this is the true problem. Parents and kids alike! Where was the public apology from the child or the parents? If my son were to EVER do something so nasty, he would be making a public apology, attending funeral services and showing respect, and not have access of any sort to facebook or any electronics for that matter! I don't care if he's 18 or not! EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE...EVEN IF YOU ARE CHIEF OF POLICE OR THE CHILD OF CHIEF OF POLICE!

Furthermore,

Words on the internet of such a harsh nature are considered cyberbullying and there is a zero tolerance for this behavior! I'm glad someone is enforcing this! It's about time! Parents, do your job...monitor your child's facebook/myspace...whatever they have access to...I DO!

First: Payton was not kicked out for what he said. He was kicked out for bringing a weapon on to the school grounds.

Second: Payton does not live in Brittany Point, nor has he ever. If you are calling the residents of Brittany Point "trash" because it is an income based complex, your lack of intelligence is stunning. I have freinds (multiple) that live in Brittany Point. They are good people that work hard to support their families.

Specifically @ True General: People like you make me sick. You feel like your income makes you... what?...better? Reading your comments calling people whom you do not know "trash" says more about you than I ever could. If you had kids, or a clue, you'd already know that in the town to Winfield, the drugs come in from the valley or the subdivisions. Are there some in Brittany? Probably. Are there a shitload of them accross the street from the courthouse? Yes, and most residents already know it.

Third (and actually on topic): Chief Lucus is a good man. Period. The problem was that the other officials within the county (WHS staff, Winfield PD and Putnam sheriffs, Putnam county drug court and Judge Stowers specifically, that have time and time again let Payton slide.

Fourth: Chief Lucas is no longer in his position. I would suspect that you will now see fathers, friends, and families of all the families that Payton has touched (Nathan Davis for one) looking to come and collect on some old debts. He will not last long. Cops are dying to arrest him, judges are tired of him making them look stupid, the school is sick of him, and I can think of a few fathers who may want to "converse" with him. Good luck Payton. Believe me, you are going to need it.

Oh I wish I could shake your hand, very well said.

I do feel sorry for Paytons father. Very sad to see a good man be brought down by his own son!

could it be different by town or towns make their own process for firing police officers?
I remember an officer in another town that had to let the council members vote before he could be fired.

Some towns are civil service. Some towns are not. If a towns police are under civil service there is a firing process. If they are not under civil service. It's firing at will.

Chief Lucas was, to my knowledge, dismissed because the mayor wants to be re-elected and the voters wanted him out, relating to what his son Payton posted on Facebook. A lot of you are just repeating rumors and all I want to do is clarify a little bit. Payton was not expelled for anything, he said something that got taken out of context and a school official heard about it from someone who heard from someone else and so on. Payton is actually a pretty good student, in fact, the reason he hasn't been coming to school lately is because he has already obtained the necessary credits he needs to graduate from Putnam county schools (which have some of the most difficult graduation requirements in the state). As far as the trouble in his past, I don't know of any crimes he has committed, but may have happened, I don't know. And I've never known him to do drugs, etc. He does, however, have a major problem with running his mouth. The Facebook post about the boy in Hurricane was a terrible thing for him to say, but he accomplished his goal, which was to stir up a hornets nest if you will. I have no clue why someone would want to make a whole community hate him, but he has. It's his game and you are all losing.

I can't even believe what I'm reading and hearing. YES, what Payton said and did was HORRIBLE. I'm in no way condoning the nastiness that came from his mouth/fingers. BUT, being kicked out of school for a comment?! Since when do we expel a kid for words? There are many more kids threatening violence against him...should they be kicked out for words? Whats fair is fair? As far as his parents go, I know them personally. They are amazing people that have tried and tried to get Payton under control. I'm sure there are MANY parents out there that have kids smoking pot, your teenage daughters out having sex, drinking, saying horrible things about people. Lets face it, a lot of teenagers do bad things. I promise that A LOT of you "perfect" parents have children out doing stuff you'd be VERY ashamed of. Does this mean that you're a horrible parent??? Should you lose your job b/c your daughter got drunk and had sex? Or because your son smoked pot and beat some kid up? I know plenty of parents (The Lucas's included) who brought their children up in loving, Christian households but the child chose their own path. PAYTON IS 18!!!! He is a LEGAL ADULT and we are holding a wonderful man and police officer accountable for something he couldn't control! This man lost his job! He has 2 other children that are wonderful people but instead we judge him over his child that has caused problems. I'm SICK over this. It makes no sense. I hope and pray that Pastor/Officer Lucas seeks legal counsel as soon as possible!
