Ex-Hinsdale priest to be freed after serving 5 years for sex abuse

A Roman Catholic priest with a history that includes abusing as many as 30 boys, many from Chicago's suburbs, will be freed from a secured state treatment facility in September, but his movements in the outside world will be closely monitored.

My heart goes out to the sisters of Fred Lenczycki who was convicted in 2004 of sexually abusing three boys at St. Isaac Jogues Church in Hinsdale.

They have been put in an untenable position. They certainly don't deserve this but neither did the scores of victims who were abused by their brother, the details of which have been described in various newspaper accounts.

The protection of others and some peace of mind for the scores of boys that he has sexually abused over the years must take precedence over family ties in this case.

The literature in the field of sexual predators who target young children states that individuals such as the one described here are narcissistic sociopaths, that is they are mainly concerned with themselves, know right from wrong but just don't care.

Such an individual should never be without a restricted, monitored day-to-day existence whether that is in a state facility or in one approved by it.

These two sisters should not think that they can in any way put adequate limits on the person their brother is. It is not possible.

Even a supervised, monitored facility similar to a St. Luke's in Silver Spring, Maryland or a Southdown Institute in Toronto, Canada, which are both described as somewhat secure facilities, would have to pass some sort of investigation.

An administrator from one of the two facilities mentioned above said once during a symposium I attended that the type of individuals who are sent to a facility like ours should never be permitted to leave. That is not always possible because they are sent by their bishops and their expenses are usually paid for by the sponsoring diocese or religious community.

Of course there is always the moral responsibility that his diocese and bishop have in his regard but I would not want to risk any child's welfare by depending on those in that corner.

The problem in most states is that the majority of sexual predators - of any stripe - escape prosecution because most victims never come forward.

In the cases where the abuser is a trusted individual like a minister, rabbi, or priest there is the added dimension of religious duress and its impact on victims of clergy sexual abuse.

Threats of eternal damnation and hell fire, threats to family members etc., are just a few of the threats endured by such victims - as young children. Some of us who have taken the time to listen have heard the horror stories of ten, twenty, thirty, forty or more years ago.

All statutes of limitation regarding the sexual abuse of children should be removed going forward both criminally and civilly and there should be at least a two year CIVIL WINDOW for bringing forward previously time barred cases of abuse.

We passed such a law in Delaware in 2007 AND we allowed a two year civil window which closes today, July 09,2009.

If Delaware did it others states can do it - if they put the welfare of all God's children first.
Unfortunately, such legislation failed in states like OHIO, COLORADO, NEW YORK & MARYLAND largely because of the vicious opposition of the dioceses of the Roman Catholic Church in those states along with the strong alliance between Church and Insurance Industry and the well paid lobbyists and State Catholic Conferences of Ohio, Colorado, Maryland and New York.

It is a sad commentary the the Roman Catholic Church which promised ACCOUNTABILITY & TRANSPARENCY back in 2002 through the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has not seen fit TO BE ACCOUNTABLE AND TRANSPARENT in regard to the disgraceful history of childhood sexual abuse at the hands of clerics in this country who, in too many cases, were enabled and facilitated in their perfidy by the very people who were mandated to protect, "THE LEAST OF THE LORD'S LITTLE ONES."

No number of programs and no number of police background checks for the present and the future can take the place of accountability for the crimes and sins of the past. There must be ACCOUNTABILITY & AND TRANSPARENCY AND THERE MUST BE JUSTICE.

Remember what the Lord Jesus said in the New Testament, Matthew 18:5-6, he said that whoever harms a child should have a "heavy millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea."

Until that happens it is all, "sounding brass and tinkling cymbals."

Sexual abusers should be required to wear an ankle brace alerting authorities of there whereabouts. Of course, it should have a steel insert in it to prevent cutting off the ankle. These people are among the worst of violent perpetrators of crime as their victims are mostly children or people who can't defend themselves. This is also a form of compulsive mental illness.

I had a dear friend who was raped by these sick animals at st issac j ouges in hinsdale in the 60s he died of an over dose a few years later .this animal deserves TO DIE!!!!!!!
