Unless you get rid of myspace (highly improbable), any kid, adult, or dog who can use a keyboard can get a myspace page. And those of you who say your kids don't have a myspace page, how do you know? You can get a page with a fake name and email address.COM PLETELY PaRenT PRooF!

Totally, I recently tried to create an account with MySpace. Using both a real e-mail address and a randomly generated one. Both failed to pass their "filter" test. Unless I'm missing something, it would seem Myspace is becoming tougher on who exactly is signing up and using their services. Though, I could be wrong. That was just my observation when I tried creating one. Perhaps the "expert" pedohpiles know something we don't?

i believe that myspace is not a bad site. its the people that are on it. if the people or thing that invented myspace [btw it WASENT tom] would do a search on everyone and deleted the people who have a record of being predetOrs to help myspace out. give it a break guys. MYSPACE CAN BE GOOD AND YOU WONT BE KNOWN.......
UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE.

My reaction to Myspace is:"oh you mean that site where the creator let seven of conneticuts children get raped and murdered?" Right....don't join that one. It's evil, Tom's evil and that leads to satanic rituals.
Wow and I thought i was bizzar. Yes sad but satanic let me ask did the parents know what there child was doing?
Do you really feel that way about myspace because I have one and I am careful not allowing anyone I dont Know personally be my friend and if u dont lie about your age certain ages cant be your friend unless they know info about you like your last name I dont feel that unsafe about myspace but after reading what you wrote it makes me think I didnt know that wheen I made my myspace I wonder if others do

I think it's crazy, I mean, I've had one for a while and no one has bugged me. I only talk to my friends on there. My parents are weird about it. They check my friends list, etc. They want to know who every person is. My parents don't like it, but they don't forbid me from getting on it. At my school you can't get on myspace, they put a special Admin block on it. I don't know about the library..but I guess you can. My parents trust me because I basically talk to them about everything.

I'm a 15 year old girl, and i think everyone just needs to settle down about the whole thing... it's not that Myspace is dangerous, it's the people on there that are dangerous, and stupid... It's not Myspace's fault that stupid teenage girls put there phone numbers, and addresses and everything else on there. It's the girls fault... and It's not Myspace's fault if creepy guys look on girls myspaces (who by the way arent smart enough to put it on private) and want to meet them. and it's not Myspace's fault that those stupid girls and creepy guys agree to meet someplace... And o.k. yea sometimes people post bulletins that have some bad words and talk about sex and drugs but thats not myspace's fault...
But i do see where some of you come when you say that myspace provides a place for creepy guys to look at girls myspace's but again you van put your myspace on private so no one but your friends can see it and you pick whose friends you want to be or not so i think it's pretty safe. because i've been going on there almost every day for about 3 years and i've never had anyone i didn't know talk to me or look at my page because i have mine set on private so if a creepy guy or just someone i don't know ask's me to be their friend i just decline it...

well thats my thought anyways...

Kelly! Amen.

We have to police OUR kids and anyone else's we see getting out of hand. I have teens and it's my job to know what they're doing and with whom. I also set up a profile, it's called MOM and I check up on these kids and post comments when needed. Especially the children who seem lost. I read alot of their blogs. It's crazy how lonely, scared, insecure & depressed some of these kids are.

All the people on my kids friends list on myspace are from school or friends of friends from a Town over etc.

My older kids are boys, 18 & 16. As parents, you would be appalled at the messages they get from little girls. These beautiful girls who think the only way to get a boy is to show them their who-who and their ta-ta's. I'm talking girls that look like they have barely gone through puberty, they weigh like 98lbs. It's just sad. Looking for love in all the wrong places comes to mind. Where the H*** are the parents when they're posing nekkid in their bathrooms for myspace??
These particular girls WILL find themselves in trouble someday and it's from their own doing. Maybe they dont know any better, maybe Mommy and Daddy didnt love them enough - I don't know.

I do know it's very easy to lure a lonely kid away from their daily crappy lives with just a little attention ...and thats scary.

Oh and YAH - no personal info. My name isn't really Gianna Rowan.=)

YES...all the profiles should be set to private. You have options to not accept friends from anyone unless they know your last name or email addy. And you can set your profile so younger people can't contact you. You can also set your albums to private.

So it's really the USERS that aren't protecting THEMSELVES and/or lying about their ages.

TOM created the site but he didn't LET anyone get raped and murdered. Statements like that are ignorant.

My daughter has a myspace and I am one of her freinds. But she has found a way to tweak hers so that all of her freinds and comments are hidden. My daughter is 15 and generally has always been a good girl. But I can see how she is changing and I believe that a sweet talking 17 or 19 yr old guy (or even older)could very easily persuade her to do things that she would ordinarly not do. Especially since at this age teenagers tend to think their lives suck and parents are just out to get them. They REALLY literally believe they know everything. I find myself watching every move she makes and it scares and bothers me that I have to do this. Life as a teenager nowadays is so much different and much more dangerous then when I was growing up.

my names ciel, and i'd like to share an observation. i have about 800 friends on myspace, and even if they were trying to molest me, which i can easily say they are not because ive NEVER personally had someone ask me so much as a where do you live any specificer then the country. and if you think about that, theres nobody who can identify someone by for instance saying they live in the USA. incase of course were talking about the president. haha anyway, real life profiles are dangerous, yah, its true. my advice? keep real life in real life where it belongs, it wont be excepted anywhere else. keep any pictures off myspace, keep any specific info such as zip codes phone numbers adresses citys specific parts of the state ex. northwest off myspace, myspace isnt real life so people shouldnt need to know what you look like, or where in a state you live. following rules like this will minimize your chances of a predator being capable of finding you. phone numbers are fairly area specific, havent any of you noticed that most phone numbers in a specific area start with a specific first 3 digits? predators can trace that, phone numbers were already dangerous this makes them an unstable nuke. second of all. never use the same myspace to talk to your friends in school or other real life things for regular myspace. keep one for just people you know, keep one for people you dont and have both have random info. because if these predators add you, and your friend does something stupid and he looks at your friends page and knows hes your friend in real life, welp there goes your group of friends. have kids wise up and youll have no problem. oh yah, webcams are a hazard. never let your kid have them. ever.

predators play smart as hard as it is to believe, so stop being stupid and outsmart them.

hii,
right., myspace. you choose who you speak to. they add you, or you add them. you have the choice of having a private profile, or a profile that is viewable by the public. it's all at your own risk. if you do something stupid, the higher the risk is that something will happen to you. it really, really irritates me how people blame myspace, of all websites. there are plenty of other sites that pose as higher threats; myspace, is perfectly safe, as long as you use it correctly. i myself have made plenty of new friends on the site that i have met safely & chat to regularly. not everybody on myspace is a stupid idiot that leaks out their personal info, and i am certain that every single teenager on myspace is not a 42 year old in disguise. please think twice before you even begin accusing the site of being dangerous, as i use it regularly and have never had any problems.
thanks.

My 13 year old has a my space and I monitor it. I see who her friends are and delete as needed.

I also log in and check out her friends pages to see what type of people they are.

I have found some pretty alarming stuff - but it is called parenting.

You can't let your kids have gateways to this type of stuff and not set up security as was mentioned in previous postings or not check on them and see what they are up too.

Not that any parent deserves what these parents went through but take part in the kids lives and look at what they are doing.

Ok I have two children 12 & 5. They both have myspace accounts as well as myself. We have family all over the US, it is a way to send well wishes, talk daily and send a smile.
I trust my children, have had a long talk with them both they are not allowed to use the computer if I am not in direct eye view. They are not allowed to accept new friends at all. Unless I personally know them.
I would think that if you were that afraid of petefiles, you would sit with your children, explain the internet, and have all their passwords, so that you can monitor their activity.
Its not myspace its lack of responsibilty of the parents.Quit blaming everyone else and look at yourselves. The problems start at home.
Just my two cents, go spend one and get a clue.
