BBB is sounding more like those other two worthless organizations, the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the League of Women Voters (LWV).

By embracing their new formula, with its built-in conflicts of interest, BBB clearly demonstrates it is essentially worthless as a source of consumer information. BBB has now become just another public relations flack, on matter what rationale they employ.

I agree with George's assessment of the Max chain. These are very good restaurants, especially Max Amore in Glastonbury. They're a bit pricey, but the food is consistently good. They're opening a Max Burger in West Hartford, but I don't think I want to pay $10 for a hamburger, no fries. For good burgers nothing beats Five Guys.

Forget about Five Guys. My Three Wives has the best all around bargain burgers you can get in the state if not the northeast. You should try one and you will see.

I filed a complaint with the BBB once, they refused to look into it, so I took the company I filed the complaint against to small claims court, and received full restitution. In my opinion, the BBB is NFG, NO FREAKIN GOOD! And, only A+ ratings for dues paying members proves it. The BBB is useless, time for them to go away.

I opened a business 27 yr ago and decided I didn't want to join the BBB. To me they seemed to be a self serving entity. Pay them to get good referrals. No way. I run my business as best as I possibly can, and treat customers fairly. I have never had a problem I will look at there site now to see what it has to say, but from what I've always heard because I'm not a paying member, it just says they have no negative reports on me. I can't see the sense of paying just to be a member. It always sounded like a scam to me.

If you used the BBB as a resource for determining which businesses are reliable, I have a bridge on the East River you might be interested in purchasing!

SOMEONE SHOULD LOOK INTO THE RATINGS FOR THE CONN BBB EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE. ALL 9 COMPANIES HAVE "A" (A- to A+) RATINGS WITH MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS !!

My company received a mailer (twice that I remember in the past year) from the CT Better Business Bureau stating that a comment or complaint was made to them about my company. The mailer directed me to call them or logon to their site and use a number/code (which they supplied) to view the comment.
It was a "bait & switch" !! When I called all they did was try to get me to join!
The second mailer I threw away.
Their BBB rating should be "S" for scam (in my opinion).

Looks like the BBB people are hard at work putting in negative icons on the comments they don't like!
Where the heck is Blumenthal on this one?!

This reminds me of years ago when The Courant had a once -a- year "Best of" series that was discontinued when so many of The Courant advertisers complained because they did not win the top spots.
It is another example of why we should stay as local as possible when buying services, and not be swayed by lots of phone call offers and mailers.

The Courant's sister paper, the Hartford Advocate, has for many years had a "Best of Hartford" series annually. Businesses that rank high in the voting were plumbed for ads touting their place in the survey. That is, they could take out an ad saying "We're #1!"

What a terrific prize ... win a "best of" poll, get a bill for an ad. Nice.

This proved to be so lucrative that they added categories so as to expand the number that ended up being cited by the survey. Categories of businesses number in the hundreds, and have been finessed down to a level that no longer even makes any sense.

For example, it used to be that they had just "Best Mexican Restaurant." Now, in addition to that, they have "Best Burrito" and "Best Taco." Gimme a break!

There are now so many poll questions that the poll takes forever to fill out. Enough people don't fill it out completely that they reject any entries that don't answer at least half of the questions.

When a poll gets that big, you know it's too complicated.

Have a look at the ridiculousness of it at http://www.hartfordadvocate.com/best/best_08....
