This is a heinous crime. Unfortunately Mr. Otto's attorny must make a motion for a change of venue due to the Hartford Courant coverage. My sympathy goes to the deceased family members. This will be a long trial that the family will be forced to endure before closure can occur.

It looks to me like this family is more interested in getting rich than justice here. The money won't bring back this woman. This is the typical crap that goes on that makes this country such a crappy place to live in. Sure this guy deserves to rot in jail or better yet fry, but these people don't need to get rich off of the guys family who most likely had know idea of anything this guy was up to.

Sounds to me like the family actually wants the assurance that Mr. Otto will not get out on bail. i don't blame them, i would do the same thing. If you tie his money up, he can not use it. Now give that poor family a break and an apology.

Listen to your lawyer. To everyone who's not thinking clearly, it looks like the money is for the family. Greed etc. If you also look at the time the money was held up, you can clearly see, it's so he does not get out on bail. I don't know all of the issues with the attorney as you do, but I'm sure money does have to do with it somewhat, but it also protects Shamaia's families interest. I'm not an attorney but I instantly thought he would go for bail and skip out on it. i thought his money needs to be frozen. The lawyer seems to know what he's doing. Good luck to your family. It will be a long, hard court battle.

I think the family should do everything in their power to destroy this evil man, including ruining him financially. If I am not mistaken, if he is convicted, but has no money because he has lost the civil case filed by the family, he will have to rely on the public defender's office to handle any appeals. He won't be able to afford to hire a high power attorney for his appeals....very smart on the part of the poor victim's family. I wish that the previous posters who are thinking ill of the family would reconsider.....it's not always about financial gain.....

5 million for a stripper. Only in America.
What about his family, who are also victims?
He wasn't even charged when the suit was filed so the bail argument doesn't hold any water. Also, the suit is "led by an aunt". KA-CHING!!!!!

Compensation for a lost loved one. The Aunt is handling the affairs for the FAMILY. Tell me if it were your loved one-would you not do the same? OJ was innocent but guilty in civil court and he had to pay up.
No, when my child was murdered I grieved his loss and trusted in the justice system, I did not run to a lawyer and try to cash in.. By the way, OJ hasn't paid up.

ITS NOT ABOUT THE MONEY, MONEY WILL NOT BRING HER BACK IT FOR EXAMPLE WHEN SOMEONE IS IN A CAR ACCIDENT AND THE PERSON DIES YOU CAN SUE THEIR INSURANCE AND IF THEY DO NOT HAVE INSURANCE YOU CAN NOT DO ANYTIHNG. AND THAT YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO !! SO WHAT ABOUT MURDER!!! WITH SUCH GREAT EFFORTS TO COVER IT UP AND... IS NOT ABOUT CASHING IN IT IS YOUR RIGHT. IT WAS YOUR RIGHT TOO!! PEOPLE WITH ALOT OF MONEY COMITT OFFENSES AND GET FINED LOTS OF MONEY ORDERED BY THE JUDGE AND DO JAIL TIME. SO MATTER WHAT YOU DO IN LIFE THERE IS A CONSEQUENCE. SHE HAD THE GOALS SHE WANTED TO OPEN UP AN HAIR SALON SHE LIKED TO SING SHE COULD HAVE BENEFITED ON ANYTHING FOR HER FAMILY. YOU SEE ALOT PEOPLE BUILDING FOUNDATIONS FOR THEIR DECEASED FAMILY MEMBERS AS LONG AS THERE IS POSITIVE THINGS DONE IT WON'T BE ABOUT THE MONEY
