We need to better market fire safety items such as smoke alarms, fire extinguishers and rope ladders. The more homes with these items, the better. The follow may be ideas to help distribute these items.
At food banks, they give away canned and other food items. Why can’t they also include giving away smoke alarms as well? For those on food stamps, why can’t they allow purchase of fire safety items? Can they also give away or sell, at a deep discount, items such as fire extinguishers and rope ladders at fire stations? Could there be a stand set up at places such as the farmers market to distribute these fire safety items? Can stands be set up at grocery stores at the check out line, a video playing fire safety tips? Then fire safety items would be displayed under this TV for people to simply buy at the check out line.
Can the City of Des Moines channel also play fire safety tips and show where one can pick up or buy items such as smoke alarms, fire extinguishers and rope ladders?
We need to get creative for ways to distribute fire safety items. The more homes with these items, the better.

Who is going to pay for all your ideas?

You have toy drives. They require these items to be in their original packages. They have food drives. You may drop off canned food at your church or at work. You have those bar coded paper at the check out lines of grocery stores. You may ask the cashier to simply swipe that paper to add a dollar to your grocery bill. Perhaps a partnership with a car company could be created. For example, for every car sold, they will donate so much to the fire safety campaign. They have Shriners Hospitals, a hospital that takes care of pediatric burn victims. Perhaps during parades, the Shriners could give away coupons and information for these fire safety items. It could be paid for by donations to this organization.
These could be some ways to help pay for or collect these needed fire safety items.
