Just wondering, who knows what's going on with a deacon of a local big church that caused him to resign after 35 years? What did he do and who was it?

35 years? Maybe it was time to retire?

I would guess, if you are not a member of whatever church this happened in, it's none of your business.

I'm with Bonham Resident on this one! If said church wanted you to know, they would make it public! People in Bonham need to learn how to mind their own business!

If he had been a deacon for 35 years, he's more than likely pretty old and may just not be able to continue serving.

The above comments are really funny!! Considering you are on Topix, and it is none of your business type answer? What about all those negative remarks about the Caplingers, was that any of your business? You did not know the complete story, but you sure tried and convicted both of them, All the same difference. Good Luck finding out the rumor on the deacon.

Not sure who you are referring to with that post, but the District Attorney in Fannin County is trying to convict both of them last I read in the paper.

Could it be that after 35 years of dealing with nosy busy body gossips at church, the deacon is just plain fed up?

The Caplingers are accused of a serious crime. It is NOT the same. And if the nosy old biddies can't find out the real story on the retiring deacon, they will just make up a story and spread it all over town! Of course, since the busy body didn't name the church or the deacon....ANY resigning deacon in the county will be scrutanized and slandered....typical small minds in small towns!

Anyone heard what the Caplinger's defense will be? I can't imagine what they are going to present to show they are innocent. The old sticky fingers argument??

There is a difference in resigning and retireing.

There have been church elders (not calling names) around here who would have gone to the pen if their church had not come to their rescue...paid back the money they embezzled from their employers;another I know of took money from the church. Guess that's the members' choice, taking care of their own (they might need a favor some day themselves!)

I'm glad you all know who is being talked about, because I sure haven't heard a word about it and really am glad I haven't. Good luck to the man being talked about in whatever he chooses to do and may the church grow and prosper!

To RESIGN is to give up power, to voluntarily quit a job, RETIRING is to withdraw from one's position or occupation or from active working life. so there really isn't that much difference. Too many people have the mistaken idea that resigning is somehow negative, probably due to politicans "resigning" their position when scandal breaks.

Resigning is unplanned, retiring is planned.
