Neighbors just need to mind their own business.. There is nothing wrong with having a few hens that are kept in a pen. The problem is ignorance..With the economy going the way it is, the laws need to be changed!
There should be some laws against NOSEY NEIGHBORS!

OK, I know she can't pass a law banning hispanics from Orange County which is what most of the so called chickenhaters REALLY want, but it is her district.
It was admittedly very short notice, so I didn't really expect her to attend.
I'm still waiting for a polite response to my email, just like the last time I contacted her.
I always thought she was the GOOD commissioner.
My chickens don't care one way or the other. Neither do my neighbors.
Well I dont know if you are reffering as you believe hispanics should be banned from Orange County but anyone believing this IS A RACIST! I think white people, black people and even hispanics have had chickens in their life time or their parents have.
Now not only do hispanics have poultry here in Orange County as in other places all around the U.S but many white, and black families have as well. Now anyone thinking that way of "banning" or "deporting" people due to race should get the heck out of here because they themselves might be white, black, hispanics but no one is originally from the U.S..either shut up about statements like that or get shutted up by your own comments.

You're not presenting any facts. You're not even being logical. Do you really think that if we allow a few pet chickens, every homeowner will get some, and then we'll have thousands of chickens "for everybody to raise"? And even if we were to slide down that slippery slope (which is highly doubtful), that invasion would be no more dangerous than a bunch of cats being allowed to roam loose. Which, you might have noticed, they already are.
Next thing you know, everyone will be playing volleyball and THEN we'll be up a creek.
You don't like my facts and you don't like my logic, fine. Doesn't mean I didn't present them or that my comments weren't logical. News flash, not everyone agrees with you.

Obviously not everyone agrees with me.

In your case, we disagree not because I don't "like" your facts. We disagree because "your" facts don't match THE facts, aka reality. And "your" logic is a slippery slope argument, aka a logical fallacy.

But hey, we can agree to disagree. It's not like we're likely to settle things here on the topix board.:)

And you think that is a good change? I wonder how you will feel about it when your rich employer can no longer pay your salary. If you are working that is. A huge assumption based on your comments. You are most likely one of the Obamacrats sitting on your tail with your hand in my pocket.

Well you guys are just racist arent you....Thats pretty sad you guys are soo uneducated to see that you guys cant even realize things....Just because you are born in the U.S doesnt make you an america or "from here" Get is straight...if you are born in Japan and your parents are black are you Japanese or Black? Your Black because you dont have any bloodlines or arent really from Japan you just migrated there.
Everyone here in this nation is either from Europe, Middle east, or if you cant immit your from somewhere else then your from CRAP.

I have "visited" Europe, but I'm no European. Knowing how to read a map and my birth certificate does not make me a racist. Lumping me in with some of the racist morons here is yet another stupid assumption you've made.

I was born here = I am from here

By the way, US citizenship laws agree with my definition. If a non-citizen gives birth to a child on US soil, the child is now "from here" and is granted US citizenship.

I recommend you type less and read more.

If you're going to be in America, conform to our society and stop perpetuating the stereotype that Hispanics are 3rd world animals. We don't raise chickens in urban areas. You may do it in Puerto Rico, Guatamala or wherever you're from but, not here in Orlando.

Actually, if the commenters here in Topix are correct (a risky assumption, I know), chickens can be raised in Orlando. Just not in east Orange county.

I support changing the laws to allow four hens but no roosters. This should include a restriction that a coop can't be built within 40-70 ft. of a neighbor's house. With these restrictions, the hens will be no more of a bother than a dog or cat.
Neighborhoods with HOA's should still be allowed to have their own restrictions.
Other urban areas have these laws and have been successful.
I look forward to the days when these changes come to Orange County.

Enough said, it's a done deal.

Dogs are domesticated animals, chickens are not. You're stretching to validate your argument but, it doesn't hold water.
I have 2 chickens in my downtown Orlando yard who are friendlier than most cats I know. They come when I call them. They sit in my lap. They are clean and quiet. Maybe you should take a better look at what 'domesticated' really means.

I have had a dozen laying hens in my HOA controlled Orange County backyard for over two years and my neighbors and the government have been none the wiser. I will not ask the government for permission to keep chickens in my backyard. As long as I am not creating a nuisance, it's neither the government's nor my neighbors' business what I do with my private property.

My friend JuJuBee and I have been living at the Mt. Vernon for about 6 months, and we keep chickens and ducks down in the park. They are wonderful! We take their eggs and eat them, and we sometimes capture one and roast it. Once we found some koi in a pond in a neighborhood where we had a trick, and we fished it out and took it home and ate it. We got bad runs the next day and had to miss our jobs.

Iron Chef Morimoto made some chicken and waffle ice cream plus duck gyoza.

Have you ever thought that when you eat an egg roll, the filling could be anything? Same with meat in Won Ton soup. I rarely eat Oriental. Too many questions about where the meat and fillings come from.
