The charter can be found online, so you can search those multi-pages for answers to your questions.
TML has not covered Decherd for several years.
Excellent response!!

If I were as smart as you I would run for Congress or Governor.

Thank you for the compliment, but I work too hard on my farms to get into politics. Glad school is out so my 3 boys and my girl can help us cut the fields and tend to the corn and livestock. We are worried about what is going to happen to our watering ponds if you and the others let the rock crushing business come to our community. What you men have planned is going to drain our wells, so tell me how all of us are going to water our cattle.

When you took office were you given a copy of the charter? It's easier to read in that paper copy, a big folder with a brown cover. That was easier to read than the online printing.

Some of the charter changes dated back to way before when Otis was the mayor and then later when things improved for citizens in Decherd.

All of this fiasco could have easily been prevented if Decherd had stayed out of it. It was the business of Franklin County and Franklin County only. Winchester and Cowan acted correctly, and even Monteagle, imagine going outside the county with an annexation request!! In summary, "spot annexing" in this particular situation only benefited the property owners. The Greenhaw residents were not considered, they should have had the "vote" also!!

Hey there Mr. New Mayor. Did you fine gents get some new papers served on you all this week? Funny isn't it? Ya'll try to mess with a thing the Supreme Court in our fine State of Tennessee said was illegal and now you gents are having to answer a bunch of questions from some sharp, legal minded individuals from out of county. Serves all of you right.

How many times have you gents met behind closed doors since Tuesday to get your stories straight? Is TML still going to provide you men with an attorney? NO...Decherd doesn't use them anylonger. Who will represent you men? How much is this costing Decherd residents?

They have been sued before for that violation. Ask Buster Gaines.

Wonder where their depositions will be held. Maybe someone should contact Judge Curtiss Smith and request that all the depositions be held on the property in question. Maybe the current residents will host a brunch for all the 'attendies.'

Once the depositions are finished and trial is complete, State Ethics committee and Comptroller will jump in and send folks down from Nashville to take over City Hall. Guess we'll see the new faces running Decherd's business on news 4 or 5 when that happens.

Don't we find it amusing that the nasty guy hasn't been back on here since they got served papers?????

Won't ever happen. Depositions only took about ten minutes per person I was told.

This and more in tomorrow's edition of the H-C:

TBI Investigating City of Decherd Under Suspicion of Bribery

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is probing Decherd City officials for allegedly its conduct leading up to annexation of property to be used as a Rock Quarry.
Kristen Helm, public information officer with the TBI, confirmed that the city is indeed being investigated to determine whether or not bribery was involved in swaying the aldermen’s votes in favor of the efforts to annex the property located on Greenhaw Road.
Though contacted, Mayor Robin Smith said he could not comment regarding the investigation at this time.
The mayor and aldermen were subpoenaed to go before Special Agent-Criminal Investigator Larry B. Davis of the TBI this week. At that time they are required to bring all papers, books, records, agreements, documents and any and all agreements of annexation between Decherd and Tinsley Asphalt, LLC. They’re also to be sworn and questioned by Special Agent Davis for the purpose of giving a written statement, delivering aforementioned items and obtaining evidence by said agent in the investigation conducted by TBI.

YES ROBIN........ tell us about the investigation ..........seems to me NOBODY has even been questioned yet and supposed to take place THIS WEEK..........

A person goes out of town for a few days and look what happens in Decherd. Guess I have a lot of reading to catch up on. So have the depositions already taken place or are they coming up soon? Has the TBI already spoken with the Decherd aldermen and admin staff? Or is that still in the offing?

And to think I felt tropical storm Debby was bad on the west coast of Florida. The storm must have followed all of us back to decherd. WOW!!!! Gotta go dry out the tents and sleeping bags. KEEP US INFORMED....please??

I hope Agent Davis looks at any transactions that Don Cofer might have made at the Ford dealership with the Tinsleys. In my opinion he would have at the minimum a conflict of interest if he sold them vehicles and profited from those sales.

Oh even if there is no proof just think of the shame of being investigated by the TBI.

If there is proof of bribery, isn't that a criminal offense for both the person taking the bribe and the one making the bribe? I don't think a TBI investigation of this sort would have been initiated if there wasn't some reasonable suspicion of wrongdoing.
