I dont live on food stamps but there are times that I have used them for a month or so until I got a job and thats ok, at least I didnt get pregnant at 16 and have 4 kids.... just to get foodstamps and welfare....

I dont depend on the freaking government because me and husband have worked since we were 17.... so if i need assitance for a couple months so be it...

Some people can be so judgmental of others as soon as you mention that you get food stamps. Times are hard for a lot of people right now and there is no shame in needing help. It is a shame however that people are put down and made to feel shame when they are doing what is necessary and legal to provide for their families during this hard time.
It never fails that someone has to mention a teenager having a child or someone having multiple children. Well, I was 18 when I had my first child and I had 4 of them. I had to turn to food stamps on more than one occasion. I worked the whole time my children were young and it was tough to make ends meet sometimes. I was married before I ever had children or got pregnant (or had sex for that matter). Life doesnít always turn out the way you plan. I finished high school and went on to get a degree. However, as I said there were times when I needed extra help. I had to face the shame and embarrassment some uneducated, self-righteous people thought it was their place to throw my way. But I went through it for the sake of providing for my children. I never cheated the system and never stayed on assistance longer than necessary. In fact I am eligible now for stamps but donít get them because I am barely getting by without them and as long as I am I will. Not because of shame or embarrassment but because I wont take what I can do without. I hope that those who look down on others never find themselves in that same position and if they do I hope they never get treated the way they are treating others.

Sorry to change the subject but I have a question about EBT.
I lost my job and went to sign up because I only draw 800.00 a month in unemployment and there is 2 people in my family. They told me I could have them but that has been 2 weeks ago and I have not heard anything else. I will have another job before I get help, I hope!! Does it always take this long? Thought if I got the help it would keep from loosing my apartment but it is not looking good.

No i was referring to the one poster that told me to get a job.

I dont knock the people who try, but in reality, I do know people who got pregnant just so they could get help from the government and not have to work.

So im not just throwing that out there just because.

If you get your foodstamps legally without lying, Great.... But if you have to lie you should be ashamed of your selfs...

however there are those times that people who should get the help cant because they dont lie

so its all crappy....

when you have income they wont give you any until the next month starts....

but they go by the last digit of your social.

if its for instance....

2345

then you'll get your stamps on the 6th.

so if you signed up in the middle of august then your not going to get any yet...

but if you dont get your card within a certain amount of time or the letter then you need to call your worker.

It can take close to 30 days sometimes for the workers to finish the cases after you have turned in all the verification requested. The reason it can take so long is because of the workload the workers have. Also there are quite a few workers that are newer and have to have their cases read for accuracy before they are approved. The workers really are working as fast as they can.

i think it's horrible the way some folks are treated for receiving help. some situations really do require assistance. while people will get on her and say, "it doesn't bother me when they really need it", the fact remains that every time they see a person use an ebt card, they automatically label them as trash. just remember that before you judge, life comes at you fast, and in the blink of an eye, you could quickly become the same person you pass judgment on. houses burn down, jobs are lost, car accidents can cripple even the most proud man or woman. don't judge thinking you're above god's wrath, because god does not like ugly.

I am amashed of having to go there and apply but things happen. I don't think no one is proud of it!!!! I would rather see someone using them instead of selling for drugs and people really do that. It makes me sick that someone would do that!!

not one person i know who gets help thinks it's something to brag about, but they shouldn't be ashamed either. if they have worked hard and lived the life we are intended to live, they shouldn't feel like bad people for needing a little help from time to time. people were put on this earth to work together and help each other. that being said, the people abusing the system will be punished, karma has a way of making things right.

Curious,

Its not saying that you will continue to get the $365 until you reach the $1517 (or whatever the level is).

How it works: The closer you are to the max level ($1517 in this case for 2ppl) then the less you will receive in F.Stamps. Whereas the farther away from that max point you are the more foodstamps you will receive (not exceeding $365/mo)

When you receive: will vary depending on what day you apply. You are correct that you receive your benefits one day after the last number of your social.(ex: ends in 3, you will receive on the 4th) Now if you apply mid month and you have a fast worker you could potentially receive a pro-rated amount mid month then receive your full amount on your regularly assigned date. Sometimes however you will get your prorated amount AND your full amount all on the regular date.
I truly think this has to do mainly with the day you applied, the day it was entered, how soon you get paperwork back in, and your worker.

Anyone else looking for info.
To help yourself, help your worker: IF you plan on applying, stop down at the local office, ask for an income verification sheet and a housing verification sheet. Go ahead get that filled out, bring in social cards & ID, along w/ any documentation IF you receive child support. Take all of this in there the day you apply. This way you already have your shit together and dont have to wait any additional time. Plus I really feel the workers love this because it makes their job easier. You help them, I think they help you - as in getting your stuff in faster for you.

I have worked all of my life as well without ever having to receive assistance. I got laid off & had to apply. Luckily 3 months later I no longer needed them. I myself dont look at anybody who uses them as a crutch, it does bother me when people make a lifestyle out of them.
Good luck. Hope this has answered the question YOU have asked (that nobody answered LOL).

I applied 2 weeks ago and returned my information that day and have not recieved any thing back. I thought it also has something to do with rent and utlities by how much you get. Anyway I took all that info with me. I have never signed up before. My worker is a guy, I figured they was just waiting until my day. My number ends in a 9 so I will get them the 10th, correct. Should I call and make sure they got the paperwork?
What if I get another job after the 10th do I get to keep what is on the card?

I so agree with this statement...as a person who knows what goes on in the inside...they pull all sorts of tricks on a personal basis just to stop people from getting all the help they could receive...they act like it's coming out of their pockets. But what I've found is, sometimes you have to call Frankfort on them.
