In the past 2 days there has been 2 accidents at this intersection. I used the state polices own data website http://crashinformationky.org/KCAP/Public/Hom... And on the entirety of the new Veterans Memorial Parkway (From Maple to Irvine) there has been 21 accidents listed between early '09 and spring '12, of those 10 or roughly 50% have occurred @ this intersection.

20 of the accidents have occurred at intersections of which there are 5 in total, and again 50% occurred at just 1 intersection, THIS intersection.

The intersection before and after both have stop lights and only have 3 reported accidents a piece. While this intersection with just a flashing light has more than 3 times the amount of either of those intersections, and almost 50% more than the two intersections combined.

My family is tired of calling 911 all the time because of these accidents and nothing be done about it. My wife called the county and state today and they said that there is no need for a light there. I don't see how they can ignore the accident data and say this.

Lets organize and get a light here to protect our community and its citizens from a dangerous intersection that the county/state chooses to ignore.

It already did. A woman died there 1 or 2 years ago on her way back from a ballgame with her son. It is so sad that nothing has been done other than the caution light. Traffic volume should not matter as much as peoples lives! What is Kentucky/Frankfort/Dept of Highway thinking!!

ohhh nooo that would entail the city officials putting less money in their pocket this year. Evidentally they DONT care about our citizens or they would have already put in a light. I agree LIGHT NEEDED

I wonder....if it's not a money issue (according to the Dept of Hwy) and it is up to the Dept of hwy (district 7) and Frankfort....what is WINCHESTER and SAVE A LOT doing about this. Are they rallying for a light? Are they arguing against this decision?

Thinking about it....it does COST Winchester money. Eventhough it is not a money issue for the STATE.....it is for the city of WINCHESTER.....soooo why not rally harder and get it done. Get a light there. The citizens of the area want the light for safety and the city can do it to save on costs. Either way it is a win win situation.

As for Save A Lot.....they can not tell me that they have no pull....they have a distribution center in Winchester KY and they have just built this new store at a new location....that is somewhat off the beaten path. Shouldn't they be concerned? What if ppl stopped shopping there... I realize its not going to happen and they know that....but they should step in and RALLY big for a light. Get the higher up ppl involved and this may happen.

RALLY FOR A LIGHT

Save A Lot management and Winchester officials!!

How can it not be a money issue. Just think of the costs to continue to send out firetrucks, ambulances, city, state, and county police to this intersection what seems like once a month. Also there is the cost of clean up after the accidents, repairs to the roadway and guardrails. Cost to the county/state/federal government for health care for those injured without medical insurance.

It SHOULD be about cost, in that we can't afford to NOT have a stop light there.

I agree there needs to be one put up there. Idk how true it is but..... I have heard as long as I can remember (that's a bunch of years) that there has to be a certain number of deaths in a area before they can or will do anything. As I said IDK how true it is.

Madman....I understand that it is not up to Winchester officials per say to put the traffic light in BUT I do believe that there could be more rallying going on for this traffic light.

There definitly needs to be a light there. I had a wreck there a couple years back. I was going down the bypass towards irvine rd and a guy pulled off ecton and hit me right in the side!! It was terrible but I am one of the lucky ones only my car was hurt.

The worst accidents are those where e/w and n/s hits each other, but that's not the only threat. People on Ecton have a flashing red light, but all to often cars will not stop at all or will go through more then 1 at a time regardless of who is on the other end.

Just today I was stopped waiting to make a left turn towards the freeway. On the Save-a-lot side three cars went through after it became clear, with the last two not stopping at all at the intersection. If I was not familiar with that light and peoples failure to obey traffic laws I could of attempted my turn and had yet another accident added to the totals @ this deadly intersection.

It's a very dangerous intersection!! Crossing over from a dead stop on ecton is hard even if you don't see any cars coming. They come so fast that you just clear the intersection. I was there the day the lady was killed. It was very sad and I think about her everytime I pass where she died.

Great news! My wife wrote to everyone and their brothers in reference to this intersection and she got a letter back from the state saying that due to her request they looked into it and a stop light was recommended and funding has been approved. So there will be a light installed @ this dangerous intersection in the not to distant future. To quote the letter "weather and schedule permitting".
