Here are the facts.
1. Her grandson got in trouble at Conkwright when Elaine was in Shelby County. She called the principal and told him not to discipline him. He did and when she became principal she removed him from his position.
2. Her grandson was telling players at the FB banquet that PC was going to be fired, almost 2 weeks before he was.
3. They are going to combine both Clark Middle and Conkwright into one school.. Dumb Dumb Dumb

Ok, the facts are Simple. Some of u don't like her. I'm sure she's fine with that, u can't please everybody and shouldn't Waste energy trying. And admit it or not but some of this IS racial. This is Kentucky and more than Half the state thinks were in the 60's! Sorry but that day is Over!!! Do u think she got where she is by trying to Please everybody, doubt it. Every successful person has some people that dislike them. It's the world we live in. I'm sure Ur not the 1st nor the last people who will complain about her. Funny thing is; ive been here all my life and Everybody that sits in that Power position had Always and Will always have people that don't like them and criticize their decisions. So my advice is if u dont like how you r being treated or how she's doing things, Pack Ur Shit and head for Eastern Ky. Nobody's begging for U to stay! Cya!
Lastly, on Coach C; yeah good guy, ok principal, not up to par Head Coach. The numbers don't lie. Would be different if he didn't have Talent every year, but he did. 70-73 in 13 years. 3 playoff wins in 13 years. Really!? On what level Anywhere in the world, do u keep Ur job with those numbers??? No Where! Stop making excuses! His time had been up for a while but we have the buddy buddy system here so it's ok to Keep Losing with Talent right?! Not! These kids have Won many games through middle school for years, so how do u explain losing when u get to high school when our middle schools combine??? Coaching Dumba**! Case Closed...... Bottom line; U have a Problem with Ur Boss. Wanna fix it? Leave! Bye Bye now

Wondering how long the new coach will have to show improvement. With all this talent in Clark county that I keep reading about it should be automatic . If not then I guess that coach will have to go too. Time will tell. Most important thing is to keep our children in school and have the best teachers we can in place to give them every chance to learn and become productive members of our society.

What a shame Paul Columbia has been fired. There is more to being a coach than the number of games won especially at the high school level.
It is my understanding that Coach Columbia did a outstanding job coaching the kids in the life skills that will really count for something when they become adults.

What a shame!

You can do something about this by expressing your opinion like "Bear" Rogers did in the Winchester Sun this week, or by going to the next board meeting and expressing your disapproval of E Farris's termination of his employment as GRC coach.........she can be terminated also!

Coach Columbia deserved better. He gave all he could to those kids. I know it's about winning and losing when it comes to sports but sometimes there is more important lessons to learn. I know him and he was shocked because he thought Mrs.Farris would have let him know if she was going to do that. In every job there is a warning of some kind but he never saw it coming. Those of you that think he needed to go because he didn't have a the record that he needed. Well does Mrs Farris have a winning record either. Coach Columbia is always on the kids side. He took both of his jobs seriously. He had opportunities to leave like Mrs.Farris but he was dedicated to Clark County. Do you know of any coach that doesn't lead by cussing the kids? He never used foul language at the kids. Maybe some of you think he should be tougher on them but these days so many kids have such hard times that compassion can be part of coaching. Don't let us lose a part of our community to another one.

To lol; who said anything about superstars??? I said he's had Talent. Yes, talent. From when the oldest Everett was in school to Justin this year. Had arguably the most talented teams in the state when Henry was playing and that came from coach Joyce. Know how many playoff games he won with that Talent? 1! 3 total in 13 years! And Ur argument was what? Just because u don't go D 1 doesn't mean u don't have talent. If u don't know that u shouldn't be having this discussion with me! How good Ur team is isn't measured by how many kids go D 1. Read and Understand my post before u respond to me. No Rookies here.

Why r people in cc so scared of change??? From the lowest to the highest levels! Crazy. Listen; if Ur not having success doing things one way, u have to do what? Change!!! People on here acting like winning doesn't matter.? Ask the kids if it matters to them! Do u know how hard it is to keep coming to practice and still Losing on Friday nights when U Know u have the better team??? Yeah there's more to life than winning and it's good that coach c can fill that void, just needs to do it as a principal Only. Losing isn't fun and kills the mentals of the kid when u know Ur working hard Everyday for nothing! If y'all don't know that than uv Never played for a winning program. Winning is contagious; as is Losing. What would u want Your kid to experience if they had a Choice??? Mayb u don't know but sports is All that some of these kids have. They could be on the streets doing drugs instead! There's Nowhere for kids to go here. Why not want them to be Successful and if a coach can't accomplish that in 13 years, it's Time To Go! Don't be Scared of Change cause Change Is Always going to come at Some point.

I Love GRC Football and support them all the way but name 1 of Coach Columbia team that could have beat Saint X or Trinity. None, just like for the next 10 years. Oh yea and I believe just several years ago Clark Co. won 2 Playoff games in a row with Tristian Jones and Company and won the District a few times also. Nobody remembers the good but only the Bad, its just the way it is.

And I'd say a few of the very teams Ur mentioning could've competed with those teams (St x n Trinity), but would've had to really show up as a coach. And on Ur district wins, u can actually win the district during the regular season, just beat the 3 other teams in Ur district and Ur district champs. Hagd
please

Do you honestly think Scott Co. that basically recruits can't beat those teams but Clark Co.can? Whoever you are Shane maybe you should be the coach. Because you have it all figured out.

Maybe the coach we had before Coach Columbia took the job can come back. He cussed the kids so bad it was ridiculous. The team those two years had a horrible record. Wonder if he was treating the holistic child. And the first time the new coach doesn't know he needs to be sure every kid plays like the YMCA, he will be in danger of losing his job. I guess Coach Columbia just didn't realize Mrs Farris had a really good reason to fire him. Hope her grandson is thankful.

You're funny.....there's plenty for kids to do here if they have the right attitude and upbringing from the people they interact with.

Coach Columbia is one of the good guys that a parent should be grateful that their child had the opportunity to be a part of his life. You're also right that some will go down the drug route, but with people who become involved in their lives with the morals that PC has, they will have something to fall back on when making their choice of right vrs. wrong.

If Farris fired him without giving fair warning and the opportunity to address her grievances, she should be relieved of her duties ASAP!!! Most teachers I have talked to express that her main concern is NOT the student but the TEST SCORES.

To Please/Shameful; I can tell u weren't an athlete and Likely not on a successful team All your life. 1st; as far as Scott co. U obviously don't know sh** about football. We've never lost to Scott co because they had better athletes! We lost because our defense couldn't read keys consistently and sustain that consistency throughout an entire game so we get worn down and eventually ran over. Ur just like alot of people here that don't believe in Your Home Team because of what u think about another team, Ur a follower and when that's Ur mentality, like our coach, u can't win the Big Games! So, coaching and development of mentality is why we've lost to Scott co. which u probably don't Understand. Also, yes, mayb PC is good for the kids, but only as a Principal not a coach.
Lastly; u said there's plenty for kids to do in Winchester??? Like What????? U can't be serious!
we will see

Fact of the matter is Clark County does not spend money on athletics, lets see if a proven, successful coach is brought in to re-vitalize the program, You probably are looking at either an assistant coach making his first move up and if he has success he will be recruited away or someone with connections who will not do any better. You will not find a person who is better for the students than Paul Columbia and anyone who says different is working on a different agenda. Say what you want but there will never be success for the football program until you upgrade the facilities, pay top salaries for head and assistant coaches and develop a feeder program from the middle school that actually prepares the players for whatever style the high school is playing.

YES, Winchester offers plenty:
Kroger Youth Soccer Complex, picnic shelters, baseball diamonds, playgrounds, grills, basketball courts, walking trails, College Park Gym, walking tracks, indoor pool, several golf clubs, driving ranges, tennis courts, Clark County Fair Grounds which offers disc golf course, Skate Park at Lykins Park, Three Trees Canoe-Kayak, Ky Equestrian Center...10 miles east of Winchester, hiking trails, movie theater, many clubs within the school setting to whet students' interests, plus many more activities if kid has any interests at all other than just playing on a football team such as drama clubs, foreign language clubs, Junior Civitan, agriculture clubs, on and on.

If kid is so narrow-minded toward his life goal is to play football, that is a sad situation.

I have children in the school system here, so I have followed this thread with interest. I understand that sometimes change is called for. I wondered early in the season if Coach Columbia would be removed because of the losses.
However, some of the posts here and Coach Bear's editorial have brought up some valid questions.
Is anyone sure that due process was followed with Coach Columbia? Is it true that his job performance was never addressed before he was removed? I certainly hope that isn't true. The School system is no place for arbitrary "Because I Said So"decisions. Was he given a chance to rectify deficiencies or just thrown out with out warning?
Finally, I understand the the superintendent has a grandson that plays football. If so, did she make sure every procedure was followed to the letter? I wonder how many other people were consulted to make sure it didn't appear this was the choice of an angry grandmother? Did she do everything in her power to avoid the appearance of impropriety? She owes that to every taxpayer, employee and parent in this community.
I am saddened by the loss of Coach Columbia but understand there isn't much his supporters can do. His supporters and those ready for a change should still be asking these questions.
Maybe, everything was done above board. If not, we have to ask these questions and demand answers or another employee could be the next to go.
