I'm sure by now everyone has heard about Topix Lawsuit filed in Winchester. If you could not be anonymous, would you still post on Topix, and would you still say the same things?

I think the things said here are mostly BS....like things you only talk about with your friends in your living room....it is just people being people....I think a lawsuit is absurd!....unless something was said that was life altering....such as it leading to someone's death....

Hi Dear
I agree, I think when people are talking about characters it's all pretend. If you name a real persons name and cause actual harm to come to them, that's a different matter. There has to be intent.
How was your day ?

I agree, it's absurd. I remember the thread and it wasn't very nice, but there was a lot of emotion involved on several sides.

Absolutely, no harm should come.

Did someone really file a lawsuit? This is the first I've heard of it.

Article said Texas jury recently awarded $13 million verdict and found 5 posters liable.
I think it's great to hold cowards accountable.

However, I am skeptical this case has the merit it takes. Probably a way to help ease the guilt and pain felt for the little not that lost his life. Hope I am wrong!

Absolutely. I've posted under my real name on several different sites.

As for the lawsuit, I agree that there has to be intent, and there has to be damages. However, I hope the woman who filed it is ready for the defense to dig deep into her business, because they will dig up anything they can to discredit her case.

You might want to research, Topix has been sued before and lost, and there is this little thing called an IP adress, and I assure you, if the FCC threatens to shut Topix down, guess what, they are going to squil. So if you don't want to take a chance, stop hiding behind fake names, and stop running your fingers about stuff that really don't pertain to you. Most folk on here who post hateful stuff are cowards, because they do it behind a fake name. Be grown, post your real name.

Says the poster who posts under an unregistered name. Plus, you have to prove intent and residual damages for the lawsuit to be won, two things that I've read many experts say it's extremely difficult to prove. Not saying it doesn't happen - the media is only going to report on the cases that are won, not the myriad ones that are lost or tossed out of court. And as for the FCC threatening to shut down to Topix, that could be challenged on the grounds of the 1st Amendment.
