Given the pending budget cuts, they have no choice but to cut positions. Who is out?

Well, if they look at this the same way they have in the past, here's my guess:

- hiring freeze
- positions will be reviewed to see if duties can be split throughout rest of staff instead of filling after the freeze
- travel budgets cut
- the new "Staff Professional Development Fund" may be cut or more strict on what is approved
- other budget areas will be limited/cut throughout different departments

If all else fails, I would look for them to hand down cuts for each department to figure out on their own.

Worse case scenario - some people will leave.

Cut spending so they can afford to build another new building they don't need.

So tell us the story. I thought it was EKU's building also. Maybe the neighborhood need to re-consider.

I am sure they are getting something from the new housing complex. Even if not there is the new science building, the new arts center. And even the adminstration building I am sure they haven't paid for yet. What's sad is anyone the is associated with the university knows a lot of money gets wasted but they will cut in all the wrong places.
Bet they are wishing Richmond still had all the bars downtown. I would guess that has hurt enrollment more than anything. The town and university has nothing to offer anymore. Even if it was cheap beer and wet tshirt contests but hey those are very important to a college student lol
They should have made the jump to Division I football while Kidd was still coaching taking advantage of the revenue sharing.
Kick Aramark off campus and run the food services themselves would help. No one likes the overpriced out of date crap they sell.
Lots of unused land that they could lease to bring in funds.
But they would rather just whine now so they have a reason to raise tuition again next year which in turn will cut enrollment creating a vicious cycle.

Maybe Berea College will buy EKU and move in.

I had no idea so many falsehoods were running rampant. Ok, in an attempt to help, here's what I know:
- the new housing on Lancaster Avenue is not EKU's. EKU is partnering on the ped-walk and will eventually have sole rights & responsibilities of it. Not saying there were no backroom deals on this, considering who is behind it. However, the university will be at risk of more students moving off campus to live there and lose the funds from dorms. I would not be surprised to see new housing mandates soon though.
- several of the new buildings are actually needed. The new Science Building has only one stage complete. Funds from the State were used to cover a large portion of this cost. The Arts Center is a collaborative effort, despite the lack of collaboration over the past year or so.
- Aramark would not be missed by me personally. However, the students demanded "name" brand eateries and Aramark fit the bill of the demand at that time.
- there are still computers in the area of the Library where Java City is. No other computer labs have been removed for "trendy coffee".
- Berea is a private school and EKU is a state school. I highly doubt Berea wants to set aside their own well-hidden issues to deal with EKU's public issues, not to mention the well-hidden ones.
- Tuition has gone up every year since 1968. I don't know the possible increases before then, but am sure some existed.
- Enrollment sucks, has for a few years. Retention and matriculation sucks more and has for a few years. It's not a hidden fact, just not publicized like crazy, but is available if you know where to look.

Hope at least some of this made sense.

Look how much money the adminstration makes. That's where I would start cutting. You can see EKU salaries posted at kentucky.com in the public records section.

It is a sad state in which we have found ourselves. "Some" of us are going to get cut no matter who's asses were kissed or toes were stepped on, relatives or who you may have "dirt" on, etc. Even if our positions are safe, by whatever miracle that may take, we will all take a beating. We have been steadily and repeatedly been asked/told to do more with less. Make no mistake about it, those who are make it through this with a job will be doing their same job and probably at least a portion of one of those which were cut. Look around in your departments, someone won't be here much longer. Best of luck to the other employees.

Whitlock has the nerve to say we are going to have to get rid of people but basically implies that we'll get rid of enough so that those that are left can have a raise. What a moron. Let's fix the problem then waste keep spending money so that it comes back in a few more years to bite us again. He must be a democrat.

The cuts need to start with making employees who are double dipping, retire. Also, employees who are retirement eligible need to retire. Also, administration costs need to be cut. Aramark needs to go. As for the Lancaster Ave. student housing project, E.K.U. will be purchasing that in the future.

Has anyone heard of anything new? I know that decisions are going to have to be made soon. Just looks like within the next few weeks announcements should be made. I hate for anyone to lose their job, but it's already been said the head administration people will be safe. Now how far is that? But I'm sure when the new president comes in they may not be that safe.
