Corruption and the Ohio Renaissance Festival

There is a web site / protest at http://orfprotest.com which is making a very strong case to believe the Harveysburg police department and other enforcement agencies in the area might not be enforcing the laws and codes required to keep the Ohio Renaissance Festival safe. Photographs of ORF Inc. staff openly burning trash, building code violations, and even equal access violations are now circulating. Perhaps the most alarming, evidence Harverysburg police officers routinely participate in breaking alcohol laws while working for the Ohio Renaissance Festival. Should the citizens of Harveysburg do something about this?

After looking at the protest site, I know where I am not spending my money.

I know the chief personally and he wouldnt allow any officer to break the law while on duty... what an officer does while on duty is on him and its the duty of the citizens to report what they see officers doing... its a balance of power

the person responsible for the protest page was kicked out of that fair because of inattention to his contract. he felt he was wronged and so he has taken his sour grapes public. i know that burn dumpster. seen it for over 10 years. i also know that its for wood and cardboard only, not trash.
As for the Harveysburg law enforcement. they have always been courteous and professional in my opinion and Ive never see them with alcohol while on duty.

It seems amazing to me that all people want to do is stop things like fairs and carnivals from being able to operate. I have been going to the renaissance festival for 9 years. No one burns trash, and the cops that are there are technically not on duty but being paid as security detail only. If you had ever tried to put on a large scale event you would know that. Also, this may not be the best way of dispensing anger, if that is indeed your angle. You are not very good at spreading rumors, so maybe you should try keeping your dignity and move on with your life. Its one thing to have an opinion, that is okay, but trying to feed an opinion to someone while falsifying information is a past time that will only end in a karmic heartbreak and slander lawsuit.

I attended the faire for the first time last year. I rather enjoyed it and did not witness any of the events detailed by the complaint.

This posting thread is stupid. We've been attending the Ohio Renn Faire since the beginning, have many friends who've worked there in various capacities and have NEVER heard of any such rubbish as these baseless accusations. Sour grapes indeed.

One guy got bent out of shape because they wouldn't let him come back. End of story.

Every year I come up from Tennessee just to attend the festival, orginially from Hamilton I have been attending since I was in elementary school. The ORF has always been safe, clean fun (aside from the mud show of coarse :) ) and the officers have never been anything but friendly in my experience. One bad review can stir up a lot of controversy but the festival is amazing and there is bound to be one person who is going to complain about nonsense.

I have been bringing my son to this faire for 8 years. we love the fair and all of the fantasticaly weird people, myself included. while im not a huge fan of police, the Harveysburg policd have always been respectful and professional. i have never seen anything to be concerned about, and will continue to come and have fun for years, i hooe. unless some sour ex-worker tries to get it shut down

Sounds like some sour grapes going on here. As is typically the case, I suspect someone didn't get his own selfish way and wants to try and ruin it for everyone. Take your whiney self centered attitude and go and find your own little corner to cry in!

I have been employed by the Ohio Renaissance Festival since it's beginning year in various positions,in my experience neither claim could possibly be credible. Since open flames are discouraged on the festival site(except in properly allocated areas) and indeed are grounds for dismissal. I have encountered the security staff frequently while working my cart exchanged pleasantries with no indication of them having
partaken of alcoholic beverages.(I believe I would Know when you consider I sell Alcohol at my cart.)

Seems like some people have their medieval panties in a wad... How's about you people realize that there's more meaningful things to protest in the world?
