"A person who lives in, or is from, the U.S" is correct. The term dates back to the French and indian war. The British would ridicule its American Colonists by the song "Yankee Doodle". Lol when we fought and won our Independence from them, we played that Very song. Sort of like a gloat! Following the American Civil war, the southern states didn't want to be Yankees and decided that they wanted no part in the Constitution and the Country. The US won and the Union was restored, and Washington's flag preserved. Fuck those who oppose the US. I know history. Cheers! ;)
