Chatham County ordinance unsafe

A Chatham County ordinance does not allow RVs (motor homes) to be parked on a lot or private property within a residential subdivision. However, an RV may be parked on the street for up to 24 hours. I'm a retired U.S. Army Veteran, and a retired sheriff's deputy, and I just bought an RV to enjoy my retirement. I do believe in the Constitution, property rights and safety.

RVs are large vehicles. Residential streets are not very wide. Residential subdivisions have children who play on the sidewalks and occasionally ride their bike or scooter in the street. Vision is impaired by RVs; one must go around the vehicle when it is parked on the street with limited sight lines.

Access of emergency vehicles may be impaired by RVs. An owner of an RV is at risk when inspecting or servicing the vehicle while it is parked on the street. Yet it is OK for an RV to be parked on the street, but not in an established driveway on the RV owner's private property.

Chatham County Commissioners need to modify this ordinance with an eye towards safety.

Property values in the subdivision are not going to be affected by an RV parked in a driveway for 24 hours, any more that if the non-subdivision property around the corner has one parked all the time.

Our commissioners need to modify this ordinance so all taxpayers can enjoy their retirements and their property rights.

Honoring Our Vets??

I am a 20 year retired U.S Army Combat Veteran who lives in a covenant enforced community in Chatham County. Military Veterans who own RVís are being targeted by a board member on our Homeowners Association Board,(who is a local realtor). Our covenant says we can have our RVís in the driveway for up to 48 hours, for washing and loading and unloading before and after trips. But there is a County Ordinance that only allows them to be parked in the road for 24 hours but not on private property. This ordinance is complaint driven only, which means the county will only send an officer out if someone files a complaint. Of course this Board Member complains,(totally disregarding the safety of our community) but only against veterans. One 28 year retired combat veteran a Coronal (who was wounded in combat) has already felt the wrath of this Board Member. If he has another violation he could face a Judge a $500 fine or 30 days in jail. His crime was washing his RV in his private driveway after a trip. Is this any way to treat our military veterans? We have faced many years and hardships fighting for our countries freedom. All we want now is to enjoy our retirements and those freedoms that we veterans in this community have fought so hard to get; which many veterans who have given their lives wonít ever get this opportunity to enjoy. If you live in a community that have military veterans living near you shake their hand and thank them for their service, donít give them a hard time. And to that board member Iím talking about You should thank God and shake that Veterans hand for your freedom.
GOD BLESS AMERICA!
