While I agree that Berkots is high on grocery items, the reason that wal mart is so cheap is the buying power they have. I used to be a vendor for a foods company that shall remain nameless and the only way that we got into walmarts national chain is by selling them out items below cost, therefore losing money on every case sold, but gettinf national product placement.

If Walmart wants to carry something, they will tell you exactly what they will pay. No other grocery chain in the nation has that much power.

Yea, he's lying anyway. A successful grocery store has a profit margin of 2-4%, so I really don't know how people expect that they can just get groceries for next to nothing and for a store to stay in business.

I shop everywhere, Berkots, Jewel, Caputo's, and Aldi. With the exception of Aldi all of these stores are in the same price range. What people need to do is look at ads and purchase items that are on sale. That is how you save money. Plan your meals ahead. Don't get mad at a grocery store because you want a can of tamales on a whim and it costs 20 cents more than you would like to have paid.

With the corn shortage and rising cost of gas it's only going to get more expensive.

And I doubt that poster did taxes for Berkots. Especially considering all that somebody has to do is forward this post to them and they can have their lawyers get their ip traced.

Are profit at Jewel is 38.9 percent. I just want you to know what a grocery store profit really is so you dont get lied to by one of the owners posting above me saying they only make 2-4% profit which is a flat out lie. Oh and to add some flavor to all this Burkots I.R.S. records of there profits are in fact public information make sure you take a look!

I'm not an owner at Berkots or anywhere not are you a manager at jewel. If you are one, than you are obviously lying. Yes most regular products have a gross profit of 28-40%, however that is before wages are paid, taxes are paid, and all bills are paid. If you really are a grocery manager than you know how expensive it is just to keep a store operational.

I have been in the industry for 25 years and every Jewel manager I know is college educated and knowledgable in all operations of the grocery business. You are speaking with poor grammar and a complete lack of full and concise information relating to your alleged industry. Nice try though.

Disclaimwr* I do not work for Jewel or Berkots currently. I work for a chain that specializes in natural and ethnic foods that shall remain nameless.

I have recently had a need to go to Channahon often, buying groceries at Jewel, and love it. The fresh fruits, and vegetables are cheaper, and there are always sales to chose from. Their gas is cheaper then Coal City.

You're all pretty retarded for comparing any of these low level chains. Try shopping at whole foods like a civilized person.

Whole foods is no better then Jewell, or Dominick's. The prices are higher because they pretend they are better quality foods. Besides it wouldn't pay me to drive all over.

Actually the quality, selection, and diversity of items they have are quite a bit better.

Caputo's is a pretty good store too, and a bit cheaper. Mariano's fresh market is also really nice.

Burkots is making more profit margin than wal-mart so yes indeed they are ripping people off on a large scale, however its not illegal to do this, but it is wroung to over charge people for goods that are almost four dollers cheaper at a regular store in other towns.
