How many otheres out there have prepaid a funeral with Jim Reeves? I advise you to look into it. You may be the victim of fraud like several other elderly people in town.

Sad Truth In Wilmington

The funny thing about "Gossip" is that it is not Gossip if it is TRUE. The Fraudulent part of the whole scandal is that Mr. Business Man of the Year never invested the money received by his "clients" but used it to satisfy his own wants, i.e. European & Hawaiian Vacations, Covertible Mercedes, etc. The Lavish Lifestyle of the Rich and Famous was at the expense of the many Wilmington families who trusted him and pre-paid for funeral services that will never be honoured. It maybe time that the Jim Reeves fanclub rethink their loyalties. Now, You cannot blame his family for his misdeeds; however, I do not believe they are all that innocent either. Own up to the facts, pay back to the families that have been robbed and move on.

The sad fact is C.James conned several people in town. The list of people he ripped off so he and the family could live the high life is extreemly long. I am not buying the family answer of "we didn't know" My question to that statement is were you all in a coma on the cruise or in Hawaii or while you were driving a Mercedes? I have also noticed not too many masses being said for Jim at St.Rose I am guessing that cash went to making car payments....Come on Reeves Family it is time to face up you all danced now it is time to pay the band!!!!!

RE: Us too.
It's safe to assume if you gave him money, some or all of it is missing. How will anyone know until everyone effected comes forward.

Hey Heywood. If you think it's gossip, try to get ahold of them. They won't even answer the phone!

It isn't gossip it's true....Unfortunately people entrusted him enough to allow him the opportunity to serve them. He fraudulently (fraud:intentional deception made for selfish gain) accepted their money. One thing to keep in mind is that Jim Reeves was NOT associated with the Coal City, Morris or Gardner Reeves funeral homes or Freitag, Reeves and Baskerville in Wilmington. We have had a number of family services at the Coal City Reeves, and they are ultimate professionls.

The other unfortunate aspect of this situation is that getting the word out to those affected by this is going to be difficult,,mostly because the attorney who represents the Reeves is the brother of the man who owns the only newspaper in town. So any sound offs called into the Free Press will never be published because rather than serve the people who purchase his paper Mr. Fisher chooses to protect his brothers clients. So I guess the thing to do is to either go to the Herald News or perhaps one of the Chicago t.v. stations would be interested in a story that involves lord knows how many people who have either been cheated out of their money or robbed (how many vendors have not been paid for their services) You would think they would start answering their phones to avoid this going any farther......

I think it's too late for them to stop this downhill slide. People do have the right to know. So maybe a heads up to one of the newspapers or tv stations would be a good idea. It looks like small town politics is in play again. Isn't that how this whole mess started? His estate should be responsible for paying back these people. If necessary, Mrs. Reeves needs to start selling off her jewelry to repay these customers that were made promises by Jim Reeves. What is that called again? Oh Yeah! living too high on the hog!!! Well, SOMEONE, needs to be held responsible for this man's actions!!!!!!

From what I'm reading, he likely did it to his family as well. They can admit being smart enough to know, or not smart enough to know. Admit to one of these obvious choices, try to do the honorable thing, and move on.

I don't believe the family was completely in the dark about this whole thing. They had to know he wasn't making that kind of money for the limited number of funerals he was having. They all enjoyed the perks on everyone elses dime. Unfortunately, Mrs. Reeves might have been one of those wifes who had her nose in the sand, and knew nothing of their financial situation. She is his legal heir though. Unfortunately, I believe ALL of the money is gone, and anyone that pre-paid for their funerals is out of luck.

I've known Leo Reeves all of his life. I knew his father James Reeves, uncle Charles Reeves, and grandfather Wilfred Reeves. I'm upset by what I've been reading on this blog. I'm sure Leo is also sickened by it. In 1989 when Leo' father James died, Leo bought his uncle's share of the business. I'm sure it's obvious now why he felt he had to. Leo was fortunate to have his father as a mentor. He was a wonderful person. Leo, like his father has always been more concerned about the quality of service than the money. I've just stated getting to know Matt Baskerville. Due to Leo's health problems, Matt is the heir apparent to Reeves funeral homes in Coal City, Morris, and Gardner. I can't think of a better successor. Matt has continued to provide the same level of care and service that we have come to expect. The events that I'm hearing about in Wilmington are certainly disturbing. Please understand that there is no connection between the funeral home in wilmington and Leo or Matt. Leo has been a life long friend and confidant. I am willing to bet my life that any money invested by Leo or Matt is rock solid and exactly where it is supposed to be. Please don't confuse anything done by Charles James (C. James) Reeves with any other funeral director. I am very CONCERNED. I fear that the wrong doing by one will diminish the good done by others. If you share my concern, call your funeral director. Ask about your prepaid funeral. I did. Matt explained it clearly and I feel you will have the same experience. Actually, it was comforting that they still answer their phone.

Stop all the chatting. Call their attorney (Jeff Fisher). If he doesn't call you back, you better call your own!

I don't think anyone on here as painted or smeared with a broad brush. Everyone has been very specific about which Reeves is in question.
