Knowing all this...would you the public vote YES for a new library with this board of Trustees. Instead of a referendum for a new building, there should be a referendum for a whole new library board with oversight or have the library annexed to a neighboring library board... Getting the money for a new library building will be a mistake. Another chance for this board to squander money.

why did the library buy all that land and not build the library? Dont understand. Also why did they buy that house where now they have to pay for maintenance and insurance?

I would have invested the money .... and then used it to buy property that was suitable.

I dont think that location on Center street is appropriate for a library.

I must be missing something....why didnt they build the library?

If the library is anything like that guy Don who works there...then forget about it. I called him 3 times about offering a fly fishing class at the library. He gave me his card at the River Frest at the Friends Booth. Never ever bothered to call back. so if that is the way you run things...then the library is a disaster.

It is sort of interesting...with all these empty buildings that now populate the River Grove area...and now the Dominicks building will most likely be one of them....that the library is actually thinking of spending a bucketload of money to build a new library. Maybe these people need glasses or their eyes checked but River Grove is losing its residents, its businesses, everything. Maybe wait and see what happens. It would be sad to build a new library if there will be no people left to actually visit the library. I am telling you folks are leaving River Grove, and the State of Illinois in droves. NO JOBS

yea..take a look down Grand Avenue....see all the empty buildings. All the businesses that have left or failed. Just vacant buildings..... what about that new strip mall that was built and now sits empty. why cant the library use one of these buildings that already exist..instead of taxing people who are already hurting for a new library.

and also when i visit the library...i dont see hardly a handful of people there. Is there really that much of a need for a new library? it would be a shame to spend all that money for just that handful of people.

also...wondering...I never see the library board members in the library actually using it. Shouldnt the board members be actually people who actually use the library. It seems to me they dont use it but decide for everyone else who does.

River Grove is a dump.. People are leaving. Schools suck. The mayor is like someone in mayberry ... the village doesnt even have a facebook page or use social media. Very behind the times.

I wonder if any of the library trustee board members actually have active library cards and if they ever use the library.. That would be interesting to know. If they dont... then that is sort of sad statement.

funny you say that....they had him listed as a friends of the library contact. I sent him several emails about being a friend and called....but never ever received any type of response. Not sure if there is even a friend groups. You cant tell what is going on at the library...one day they have a friends group, next day...nothing. It would be nice if someone was courteous enough to return phone calls there. No wonder the library is in the shape it is.

i wonder how much those clerks at the library are paid. I know they dont offer insurance to their staff. I cant imagine working there being paid squat and getting no insurance ...but in the meantime those old bags of trustees are squandering money on real estate in River Grove while the staff are paid dirt and the building is falling apart and hours are being cut.
Do you honestly think this library board is doing a good job? I dont think so. They all need to be ousted out.
That library should just be merged with a neighboring library district. The way it has been run the last 20 years has been a joke. It is a complete failure.
they are paid min. wage. I am not sure how much the librarians are paid or the Director.
I am guessing they are not paid well either. this is the reason why you are always seeing new staff members.

it is sad ...the Ilibrary is wasting thousands of dollars on maintaining all the property they bought....but I heard that when the staff at the library ask for money to get new shelves, they are told to paint the old ones. The shelves are falling apart....so they were told to just paint them. Shelving is a necessity for the library ....but the money is not paying for anything at the library but for maintaining all those properties they have bought and are not using for anything. What a shame......What a waste... the money that should be paying for things for the library are not..

The library board should all be fired or whatever they do with library board trustees. They dont have the librarys or the publlcs interest at heart at all.

very sad. They seem to be existing in some fantasy world or in the past or something. Something is wrong with them.

saw the article about the villages plans for the area around the metra station..all these high rise condominiums. ARE THEY NUTS?

Look at Franklin Park...they put up high rise condo and it ruined Franklin Avenue....it looks like a freaking eye sore.

No one is addressing the fact about traffic being backed up to north avenue and to irving because of the trains constantly backing up traffic around rush hour.

An underpass or overpass needs to be built before that area is developed. And lastly...the library SHOULD DEFINITELY NOT BE IN THAT AREA.

dumb people in River Grove government. Real dumb. Learn from Frankilin Park and how they ruined Franklin avenue.

the rg mayor and the library board all have their brains in their arse. Look at all the strip malls that were built and are now empty. They are going to make that area so freaking congested.

all they are doing is copying other town as far as building condos around metra train stops. Cant they see that what big mistakes those have turned out for thoe other villages.

Monkey see, Monkey do.... just being copycats of other towns...not doing anything individual for RG. How about developing River Road to make it loook nicer instead of all those auto body shops. What a waste.

just read that D'agostinos restaurant is opening where Dapps used to be and guess what...they will have a drive thru.......courtesy of the village.

now I dont know if anyone from the village has ever been stuck in traffic on Thatcher or on Belmont....especially at rush hour and while there is a train.....now it is a nightmare... So why dont we throw in a drive thru.... or and also right by the Bus Turnaround.

These morons at the village are idiots... Dont they see the nightmare that is being created....just add more congestion to an already congestion nightmare

whoever said people in river grove are illiterate or stupid...sure got that right.... look at the village.

no one thinks in this town.

well... if the library board is so corrupt...why doesnt the staff there speak up.? Makes you wonder....maybe they are afraid for their jobs...Not sure why...they are paid very little.

this topix topic is old...nothing has been done about it. The board has not been challenged in over 20 years.. people in town are passive...they dont care....

who cares any more.. I have stopped caring as well as others.

They can do as they please until the library is bleeding money and will shut down because of their stupidity. Dont go there anymore. who cares.

yea the library board is an outdated non functioning group of out of touch and old farts for sure. They have taken advantage of not having anyone over them to check what they do or challenge them. People have given up.... no one cares about the library because of them.

River Grove has gone downhill in a really big way. That property where they wanted to build a new library? Are they nuts?

They really need an underpass or overpass on thatcher.

not build all this construction around the metra station. Totally nuts.

they are not the most effective bunch of folks llljust a bunch of old yahoos.

that indian lady.....she just goes along with anyone to feel important.

I don't use the library often but when I am there there ae few people in the libray, the building should probably be torned down and not even used for the public, the others are probably using the other libraries.
there is no interest.
