There is a survey being given to RG residents that visit the library if they would vote for a referendum to be added next election to obtain a new library.. This would mean would people be willing to pay extra taxes for a new library building. RG definitely needs a new library, but what it needs more is a new Library Board. The current members, some who have been in office for over 25 years, have shown their poor performance. They have squandered the library's money on uninformed real estate purchases on they are now using the library's money to maintain while the library is short on money to maintain itself. They do not cooperate with the village. They do what they want and listen to no one. They treat the library like their own private club and no one else is allowed.

I would like to see a new library building but I worry if the current board continues, they will waste that opportunity also. I have no confidence in this library board whatsoever. It is a joke.

Additionally, attendanc to board meetings by the public is very minimal. This means to me there is no public interest in the library and perhaps RG really does not need a new library. No one shows up for meetings.

If the community is not that enthusiastic about a library then why tax them for a new library building.

If you are truly interested in the fate of the RG library then show up to the meetings.

The current library building is in severe disrepair. Who knows how long this building will last. River Grove will be without a GOOD library if the residents dont show up to meetings and also vote for a new library board. I would but the current board would not accept me since I dont want to play their games.

that library should be closed. The ceiling looks like it will collapse at any minute. It is always empty so I dont understand the reason for building a new library. No one goes to the one in place now so no one would go to the new one.
The building has nothing to o with it. People in River Grove are not library type of people. sorry o say but it is the trut.

that building was built in the 40s or earlier...that means there is asbestos somewhere in that building. That is the prblem..the library is independent of the village and county and the state. THey can do whatever they want.

I wouldnt even let my kids go there...the ceiling would fall on them.

I read in previous blogs that OSHA should be contacted and report it. There is problably a mold problem too!

The library board has been a problem a long time. None of the residents want to come to the board mtg. I heard the director is trying to do her job.

this last director has done a ton for that library...and she looks like she is at the end of her rope. She seems to be the only one who actually cares about the library and the people that go to the library. I think the other directors left because of that dumb board. They really squandered the library's money on all the property they bought which now no one wants to buy.

Yea.. mold too. I know my eyes water each time I visit that building. That structure is really bad....look at that ceiling..it looks like it will cave in one day.

that paint looks like it is at least 40 years...probably has lead in it. That whole building is a toxic dump and structurally unsound.

they sure picked a bad time to ask people to support a new library ...with the economy being so bad...no one is going to want to pay taxes now...

that whole board needs to go...or be investigated...there is something really unseemly about howthey have done things.

I thought someone said they were going to call OSHA.. did they? probably not because the library is still open.

Most of those older storefront buildings along Grand were built way back and most likely have asbestos. As long as no one disturbs it is ok. Although things degrade with time. Mold is a very serious poblem because it affects health . That really needs to be addressed. River Grove strikes me as pretty not knowledgeable about what is legal and not legal, what is acceptable nd what is not acceptable . I dont think they even have a building insection department.

I bet that old bowling alley is full of asbestos.
I just hope for peoples sakes that no one gets sick.

my son was in the same class as the son of one of the board members. Told me that the son got to use the library for video gaming parties. Sounds like someone thinks the library is their own little playground. Sounds plain wrong. Actually dumb...cuz kids talk.

sorry to say, but the government in River Grove is not the best or the brightest. They are hacks.

That storage building on River Road across the street from Brunswick that is being made into storage is probably full of asbestos.

Who would want to store things there, and also that is right next to River Road which floods.. really...people will want to store them stuff there. Kinda dumb.

River Grove is full of functional illiterates. They dont use libraries let alone read . Half are foreigners who live there part time and leave going back to Poland or wherever they are from. Most are also real cheap and dont want to payfor anything.

Bottom Line...River Grovers are just plain stupid.

Good luck with the new library.

think about it.. if OSHA is called, you know they would automatically shut that library down. That means no library for the village and those people working there would all lose their jobs.

Everyone is afraid to say or call anyone....because then it would be a disaster. It should be done for sure, but that means once that library is closed, it will be closed forever. It would take tens of thousands of dollars to clean up that building, which the library does not have since their money is all tied up in other real estate. They are paying maintenance on that dumb houseon Center street since it flooded.

All the people who do use the libary, most especially all the young moms and their little kids, will no longer have a library to go to. That would be the end of that library in River Grove. It would never ever reopen. And all those people who have jobs. They will be unemployed.

Sure call OSHA, but then what. that means that RIver grove will nolonger have a library and probably will never have any library in the future.

well ...i think one of the board members is up in his nineties...probably in failing health. Is there a process in place to replace him....and I mean .....honestly and legally..not the way they are doing things now.

once that board member dies...then what. Do they have one of their own buddies to put in ....so things continue the way they are......which by the way....IS NOT GREAT.......

that new board member isnt too up to speed on things either....seems she is brainwashed into agreeing what the other old farts think. Doesnt seem to think on her own.

sad. the library has no future. neither does River Grove...the way it is being run.

the new trustee has no clue. She can not think independently on her own. She just is a meek lamb and follows what the other trustees think and do. She can not think on her own. She is totally useless. That whole library has to be overhauled in many ways.

oh well. River Grove is really going down the tubes.. Now with Dominicks being shut down.. and probably be empty for a long time...there really isnt much to River Grove.

Thats ok..that new trustee can go to jail with the rest of them once they are caught. that whole bunch have no regard for rules or laws or anything. They just play around doing stupid things. They love to waste the library's money on stupid things. that is why there has been no new library in the last 30 years or so. Actually dont know why there should be a new library...everyone is leaving River Grove and Illinois for that matter.

i wonder how much those clerks at the library are paid. I know they dont offer insurance to their staff. I cant imagine working there being paid squat and getting no insurance ...but in the meantime those old bags of trustees are squandering money on real estate in River Grove while the staff are paid dirt and the building is falling apart and hours are being cut.

Do you honestly think this library board is doing a good job? I dont think so. They all need to be ousted out.

That library should just be merged with a neighboring library district. The way it has been run the last 20 years has been a joke. It is a complete failure.

the clerks are paid min. wage. I heard the others who have a library degree are paid more but not much more.

saw that the library was offering some program for retirees. The seniors will never support the library..knowing who is on the library board and how they have wasted taxpayers money. Do you honestly think a senior will vote yes for a new library on the referendum? No way jose.

Also River Grove is up a creek if no one occupies the Dominicks building. Think about all the lost sales tax revenue. Not the time for asking struggling people to pay for new library which library board will screw up again with their wasteful spending and stupid ideas. Being a good managers also means knowing when to give up and find a better idea.

oh by the way..River Grove does not have a building inspection department. Most of River Grove village employees are all family members.

another example of bad management. I hear the historical society building has been so neglected and that their building flooded so most of the historical society has moved their stuff into the River Grove Public Library basement...so the historical society is being run from the River Grove library basement. Member is trustee on both boards so thinks he can do whatever with both. What if the River Grove Library basement floods? Where ya gonna go? IF you would actually spend the money to take care of maintenance then maybe these problems would not come about.

bad management.

I hear the library is paying also for maintenance, taxes and insurance for the property they bought which can not be used for the library. That must be in the thousands. That money could have been used for the library. Are they ever going to recoup that money.? That is a WASTE OF money and shows how this board is bad at decision making and should not be in charge anymore. Unfortunatley most of the people who used to care in River Grove are gone and the new people are just here temporarily so this board will never go uncontested.

The future of the RG library is bleak if none. very sad. very sad.
