Why do most of you act like Waukegan is some giant city that doesn't need to grow anymore? This is some of the little remaining land that Waukegan has left to develop and grow on. Waukegan's stature among Illinois cities has been slipping the last few decades. It has already been surpassed in population by Naperville and Elgin. If it remains stagnant in population growth, it is poised to be surpassed next by communities such as Bolingbrook, Palatine, and downstate Bloomington, which continue to build out on their developable land. It is a myth to call a largely treeless, open field a forest anyway. There are plenty of forest preserves. If you don't like living in the nations third largest urban area, move to a rural area.

The original Mayor Robert Sabonjian, annexed this land to the City of Waukegan back in the early 1970's for Waukegan's future growth. He was for the growth of Waukegan, unlike his son who does not share the same vision, and seems to want more to maintain the status quo. The first Mayor Sabonjian, was complaining back in the 1980's, that then Mayor Bill Morris, had done not as much as dig up one shovel of dirt to develop the land! Fulfill the dream and vision of the first Mayor Sabonjian, and develop this land. There is plenty of open space left on land that is not in Waukegan, or any other community.

Waukegan likes to brag that it is the ninth largest city in Illinois. At one time, it was the seventh largest city in the state, still ahead of Naperville and Elgin, which have now surpassed it. If it continues to remain stagnant in developing its available land, there is a list of other growing Illinois cities, also poised to surpass Waukegan in population, knocking it out of the ninth position.
