And what are you? What do you give away for free? Other than your crass comments here.

The Pritzker family has the same right as you & I to turn a profit on their investments.

This isn't a story about a CEO raking in millions of dollars while the company tanks & the rank & file lose their jobs.

The Pritzker family has done more for Chicago than probably any other family ever, period.

why doesn't this rag report when I sold my house? It's about the same thing relative to my assets... so they sold some land to the highest bidder, what's the big deal? I would be approving the highest bidder as well!
to all the Pritzker-bashers out there... don't forget that this family's track record reflects their HUGE generosity to the city of Chicago. I appreciate it, why don't you give it a try?

Greed makes need. Weren't these the same bunch who were sued by one of the younger members of the family a few years back after other family members who were guardians of her trust fund looted it and blew the cash? I was sure that was the family of the same name.

Very disappointed and angry that the Pritzkers did not donate the 256 with the easement. But I guess that's what you get when you have a very rich family suing each other for every last penny rather than liking each other. What we'll probably have, given the zoning, is five private estates in an area that could have really used the public space. What a loss for a growing area.

As for the remaining 300+, it was inevitable that it would get developed one way or another. The zoning there is reasonably dense by Lake County standards; I hope for the sake of the environment and efficiency that developers build to the density limit so that the neighborhoods are less spread out and more walkable -- and with a bit of luck the developer will make out better that way too.

If my remarks seem contradictory, think again. When energy costs are high and open space is a rare asset, the ideal is clustered neighborhoods in which you can walk to the neighbors or the corner shop and hopefully to the local school as well. And accessible open space so that you don't have the whole place entirely concreted over. When that open space becomes five private estates, what do the people in the subdivision do when they want some R&R? That's right, they drive -- possibly a long way. Not cheap, and not good for the environment.

why dont they put the Childrens Musium on the 60 acres. No it wil go in Grant Park because King Richard owes the Pritzkers for bailing him out in Mellenium Park. Chicago is for sale.

good point about the diminishing ground water, john....the long term consequences of more development in a region that already supports about 10 million people should be considered.

private citizens are absolutely entitled to sell their property to whomever they want, of course, and the Pritzkers have been relatively generous with their wealth for the common good, but I can't help but wonder when mainstream society will begin to appreciate the benefits that healthy, functioning ecosystems give to humanity. you know, necessary stuff like clean, abundant water, flood mitigation, clean air....even if you don't care about other species, our lives depend on open spaces and large portions of land in somewhat natural conditions at the very least...

maybe the need to become better stewards of the environment will become clear when clean water becomes a more valuable commodity than oil sometime in the next 100 years...

So far as the Pritzkers selling land they own, why are people screaming? That's why you buy investment property in the first place.
Could they have donated the smaller portion to the Lake County Forest Presever, certainly. Especially since in that area you don't have 50 acre homesites.
However keep an eye out for the buyers to be looking to eliminate the conservation easement in the coming months and years.
"Irregardless" is not proper English and should not be used, "irregardless" of what some spineless dictionary editors say, including those who characterized it as "nonstandard." If it's "nonstandard," then don't use it.

Sorry, but when you use that word, you do show your a__ to certain people who know that the word simply ought not to be used. It doesn't help when you tell us to "look it up."

Isn't it also ironic that the Democratic & Republican parties have switched platforms in that same timeframe?

They're entitled to a return on their investments just as much as you & I.

I did in fact look it up on three different online dictionaries and they all pretty much said the same thing.

To paraphrase; the word is commonly used although not considered to be a standard.

No I’m not going to waste time pasting links, I’m sure you can do the research yourselves.

The English language is constantly changing and modifying based on new words and common usage. One example would be Google. It’s the name of a company and therefore a noun but many many people use it as a verb on a daily basis.

Words and language are tools and changing them to fit your needs shows intelligence and creativity IMHO.
