The elder Pritzkers would have donated that land to a worthy open space cause, their family has a long tradition of civic recreation causes. These kids are consumed more and more with greed!

Patrons of art and vast land owning family auctioning off land? Why? What is going on behind the scenes that would make these people NUDGE a bit. Of course they are not feeling any financial pinch at these levels because they technically don't "own" anything (that way they get the public to pay for it all but they keep control of course)...These are all the RIGHT questions to ask. And there are a few hundred more powerful families that we have never heard of, higher up the elitist fractal in fact - These are the moves that matter - above and irregardless of the circus of politics and news dramas, for centuries these sorts of move quietly and DETERMINATELY take place...whether you like it or not! Without your permission as well! Study history and shut up and listen, you might learn something. Study war and learn to love the grandness of it all.

Good on the Pritzkers for selling the land and not donating it. They have no responsibility to give away assets just because they've been successful.

Try looking it up before you speak RMF, although it's listed as "nonstandard" the word has been in common use since the early 1900's. So far as the Pritzkers selling land they own, why are people screaming? That's why you buy investment property in the first place. Could they have donated the smaller portion to the Lake County Forest Presever, certainly. Especially since in that area you don't have 50 acre homesites. However keep an eye out for the buyers to be looking to eliminate the conservation easement in the coming months and years.

They could have used the land to build the Pritzker Children's Museum.

I've been up 3 hours today and I haven't seen the Pritzker name slapped on a museum or building yet.
They must be slipping.

When the Forest Preserve buys land where do you think the money comes from? I guess you all want higher taxes? It's a free economy and it's their land to sell. You'd do the same.

You create and preserve wealth by selling property, not giving it away.

Hopefully they'll still be able to negotiate the trail connection, which would be a wonderful asset for the county and for those who bought the property also. The last thing Rt 120 needs is 1500 more homes. Driven down that road lately? With the market the way it is, I'll doubt we'll see that happening soon. Thank goodness Ken Neumann won't be getting his mitts on it.

It's the Pritzker's land, and they can sell it.
Same as Wrigley Field is Sam Zell's property, and he can change the name, weasal around the landmark thing and build a hotel there. Or sell the stadium to the state so Blago can come in chains and an orange jumpsuit with the other prisoners and clean the bathrooms.
Sounds like the Pritzkers have lots of land. It would sure be nice if they could find some land for their Childrens' Museum/ Ego Trip that is Grant Park. They shouldn't make Daley grovel and do tricks like a well trained dog. No matter how much fun that is for them.

Big deal if they're auctioning it off. It is/was their land and they can do whatever they want with it.

Bob is right, Section 8 would be great for this area. We are trying to "upscale" Chicago and ship our less desirables out to share with all the suburbs.
