Can anyone offer information regarding the impact of this business on the area in which it is located in Evanston? Pro or Con?
Bobby Buonauro Clinic Inc
1029 West Howard Street
Evanston IL 60202
This "clinic" plans to locate an office in a predominantly residential section of Berwyn, Illinois and some residents are very concerned due to it being basically a methadone treatment center.
Would appreciate comments on whether there have been any noteable problems in Evanston due to this facility.

FYI-There is a an OPEN PUBLIC FORUM scheduled for Wednesday, July 16th, at 6pm in the Municipal Lot (33rd and Grove Ave.) in Berwyn. We need as many concerned citizens there as possible to listen to our 1st Ward alderman (Chapman), but mostly to voice out own opinion regarding this methadone clinic. This clinic needs to find another home outside of Berwyn.

Learned professionals of all areas; health care providers, behavioral scientists, social scientists, psychologists, and other disciplines have researched and studied the treatment of addictions. Among the treatments known to work successfully is methadone. Methadone REMOVES the "junkies" from the streets and returns these struggling individuals to employment and to loved ones - their families, their children. Methadone does NOT increase crime and it does NOT put children or other individuals at risk. Communities with methadone clinics are forward thinking, and concerned with their neighbors and community's health. Communities that continue to stereotype individuals with addictions (and yes, alcohol and tobacco are addictions as well) will not move forward. If individuals with addictions are stereotyped I can only wonder if others are stereotyped as well. What about diversity?
I urge all individuals with any concenns about this proposed treatment center in Berwyn to obtain FACTS before posting messages. Use a legitimate search engine and research the impact of methadone on persons with opiate addiction. The continuation of false information and unjustified emotions not only detracts from the real issue but implies tha the individual posting has not done their homwork.

Thank you for posting. I was my hope to receive input from residents and business owners in proximity to the Evanston clinic. Please bear in mind that residents in Berwyn were not given much time to review the proposed clinic, nor research the impact it may have (positive or negative) on the are in which it is to be located. Looking for objective info - so, if you know of persons who could offer that to us, please direct them to this forum -- or, better yet, ask them to attend the meeting in Berwyn this coming Wednesday evening,
6:00 P.M., Municipal parking lot @33rd and Grove Avenue.

Correction to my reply to "Advanced Practice Nurse".
Should have read,
' Please bear in mind that residents in Berwyn were not given much time to review the proposed clinic, nor research the impact it may have (positive or negative) on the *area* in which it is to be located.'

I am a long time resident of Berwyn and object very strongly to the establishment of this clinic in our City. What were these aldermen thinking?

My allergist's office is in the same building as this clinic in Evanston and every Saturday morning when I got to get my allergy shots, the parking lot, entrance, and inner hallways are full of people loitering. I often am scared to get out of my car and make the walk to the door, due to the fights, yelling, and generally sketchy individuals. Just this last weekend a man in a pickup truck parked my little car in and even though he was sitting in the truck as I tried to pull out, he didn't offer to move it. Not the nicest of environments to be directly involved with, but I do understand that these places do need to be somewhere. This place isn't directly affecting the community of Evanston; only the other doctor and dentist offices in the same building.

I am an client of the clinic and and live in Evanston but also own a home in Berwyn. Lets face it folks there is a lot of other far worse businesses that we need to address before a low key quiet clinic that is respectful of its neighbors. My family has livedin Berwyn for 50 years and we are welcoming kind of people! Not the stereotyped Berwyn racist!
