I cannot know if Hayward committed the acts with which he is charged. That determination is rightly left to the thoughtful, fair citizens of Mobile. However, during the 25 years I live in the city I I was fortunate to be befriended by the Lewis family. Hayward;'s parents are among the most concerned, kind, and tolerant people I have been priveledged to know. I only ask that all who read this consider how they might react if they were in the position Hayward's innocent parents now find themselves, despising what was done but loving the person charged with doing it.

I'm sorry for the decent parents and what they are living through, but the law does not work on sentimentalistic appeal. It works on facts and how existing laws apply to them. If Hayward is innocent he walks, if guilty, he pays. Mommy and Daddy have nothing to do with it!
