Here is the obituary..That was in the Howell County News...
William L. McCleney, 83, of Willow Springs, Mo., died Oct. 25, 2009, at Ozark Medical Center in West Plains, Mo. One of four children of R.L. McCleney and Estelle Williams McCleney of Chadbourn, N.C., Bill lived his first 40 years in North Carolina. A graduate of North Carolina State College, he taught school and served in the AAF, during World War II. A breeder of Arabian horses, he raised two National Champion Arabians, among many other fine horses at Bladenboro, N.C., and Belews Creek, N.C. In 1986, Bill moved west to Kentucky and lived there several years. He then made his home at Willow Springs, Mo., where he farmed and dealt in real estate. He is survived by two sisters, Virginia M. Wright of Tempe, Ariz., and Patricia M. McIntosh of Summerfield, N.C., and by two nieces and three nephews. His family wishes to express special appreciation to his Missouri friends who knew him well and helped him enjoy his later years. Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements were under the direction of the Duncan Funeral Home in Mountain View. |

I bought the Arabians that Bill brought to this area from Kentucky/Carolinas.
My Stallion was the son of one of the National Champions. I still have a tape of one of Bill's sale in North Carolina. That sale wasn't like any you see here--more like a movie. The song "rambler" was played on loud speakers--Men in suits, ladies in fancy dresses wandering around with drinks in their hands-while these BEAUTIFUL horses were displayed like diamonds. Bill was quite a character--and still not afraid to wear yard sale shirts. He was making a multi dollar deal at a bank once--and noticed he still had the dollar tag sticking on his shirt! I'm glad to have known him. |
