The camera has an SD card, just like a digital cam. It loads and unloads on the side of the light and can be taken out and viewed on a PC, or an included cable will attach to the unit and then to the PC (card doesn't have to be taken out of the light). The motion light also has 3 different warnings alerting trespassors, or it can remain silent (like mine). I used my existing front porch light fixture and replaced it with this motion camera. Well worth the investment.
but if someone recognizes the unit or knows you have it, they can just take the card with them?

I was hoping that it transmitted the images wirelessly to a unit somewhere else hidden on the inside.

I would rather run wires.

To Moe:

The SD card is locked inside the unit. A hex key (included) is the only way to open it. I'm sure if it was recognized it could be disabled. For the money it's not state-of-the-art. You might check security companies or websites to see if you can find something to meet your needs.

You can also try the X10 cameras: http://x10.com/homepage.htm

Depending on the unit, they can do just about anything you want. I have three of them: two on motion detectors, one is a pan & tilt based; one is set up to record (to an off-site PC) anytime motion is sensed. For the package, I paid less than $300.00, and it was totally worth it. Took one little asshole to small claims court to get restitution for breaking & entering, and stealing a few things from my little coffee shop (not here locally). I got a $1750.00 judgement, too! Not to mention the fact that he did some jail time for B&E.:-)

Hey - thanks so much for the input!! We were leaving a light on inside, but I guess it got turned out. We'll make sure to do that.

And, thanks to everyone else for the kind words and advice! We are definitely making some changes and the police may have a couple of leads!

I couldnt read all the post's-seems they got too far off the subject.
What I'm wondering is if the items were ever found? This past year, there was a new house built and they lined their drive with solar lights (I think)beautiful. Next I saw in the paper that they were stolen!
Perhaps we each should report who we think the theives are? but then, it would be just like reporting who's making and dealing meth..
And life goes on...

The items were never found. It seems like nothing is safe around Willow. I read where people are having their cars stolen during the day. It's sad what people take from others who have worked hard to try & have something. My sister's shop is doing very well despite what happened to her. I just hope that the people who are stealing around the area will one day be caught.

Sharon I am glad to hear your sisters shop is still doing well. My husband and I are the couple with the car stolen. Still no luck retrieving it and the cops have no leads. We have heard several more encounters of people with stolen items, people being hit for well over $500.00 at a time. Its just very sad. We are leaving Willow after the first of the year no longer worth it to be here.

Hey, maybe if the police weren't so worried about busting all those marijuana "dealers" they could use their resources on real crimes caused by real criminals. Hmm?

And also blah blah blah the bypass.

Angela, is that you? You are the only one I know that doesn't know what the word "and" is. You have a lot of room to be talking about being a thief, don't you?! That was definitely more than pocket change that you have taken. I hope to see you behind bars, because that's definitely where you are heading!
