It seems that our dastardly duo has once again made the ranks of "Who's Who" in the Howell County News, Letter to the Editor section.

What fate awaits our little burg next? Can this pair of deviants be stopped or will the parents and students of Willow Springs just bend over and take it again and again and again, and again.

Tune in next week for the conclusion of,
"The Dunlap Doldrums"
or
"The James Gang?"

Does this have to do with them making a student leave West Plains game because the student was sitting with their parents rather than the students?

Read the letter to the editor. Yes it really happened!! Apparently the mom asked for an apology and the Board refused.

You know that they have to follow certain rules and procedures. If they are lax on just on one rule or one student, then others would soon follow. They are just doing their job and if you think you could do better you should pull up your big boy or big girl pants and apply for their jobs.

I don't think it was against the rules. She was sitting in the stands with her father. There is no policy that student fans must sit in the student section. I'd look into the facts before stating an opinion. How would you feel if your daughter was told she wasn't allowed to sit with you during a game (which you both paid to enter), and then when you failed to comply to the administrators, you were escorted out by the police???

All the parent asked for was an apology, and that was too much for the Board.

IF that occurred, it is hideous judgement on the part of the administration. IF it is a "rule" it is an assinine rule. Why on earth would a student NOT be allowed to sit with the THEIR PARENTS?
Sounds like the WS school district would like to have more imput into the childs life than the parents.
EVERY parent should contact the school superintendent and principals office AND school board members and DEMAND an explanation! It really doesn't sound like this is the whole story BECAUSE school "rules" do not trump the U.S. Bill of Rights or the U.S.Constitution.
I cannot believe I am saying this, but I would contact the ACLU and file a complaint. Sounds like the students right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness has been violated.
IF this occurred, WHO THE HELL do these people THINK they are?

I was at that ballgame and was wondering what the hell the cops were wandering around the bleachers about. I thought maybe there was a fight but never saw one.
As far as the Anti Christian Losers Union, please leave them out of it we dont need those type of people in Howell County. The school board got one new member and there will be more seats up next year. If they dont come up with an answer whether agreed with or not then vote their tail ends out of office. This hit the newspaper this week over a ballgame that was in January. Kinda late to do anything now isn't it?

So it just came to light. Doesn't make it ok that it happened. If a teacher did something bad to a student 2 months ago at school it would be excuseable? I don't see it that way. Sounds to me like someone got the big head (status quo, huh?) and it escalated to a "scene." In my opinion, extremely poor judgement on the administrators part to try and separate a family. What is the objective of this action anyway?
They think students and families have no rights?

The letter in the paper stated (editors note) they had given the school a chance to reply to letter at the same time was in paper. And the family tried to resolve this with the school board. I think that is why as much time has passed. They did try to handle this without it being put in the paper. But noooo, the school handles everything with bully tactics or just try to sweep them under the rug. Either they hope to scare the problem away or that the parents will just drop it if they ignore them. It is way past time to make some changes at good ole Willow Springs School

We could get a voodoo lady from the bayou to.....
heh heh heh...shall I say...put a hex on them....
and then we just sit back and wait for the fireworks...heh heh heh.

Seriously, as the Howell County News states, if, according to board president Chris Rutledge, the actions taken by the WSHS principal and asst. principal were acceptable...it is time for a new board president and some new blood on the school board. Who the hell would stand up in public and say this was acceptable behavior by those that are supposed to lead by example!!??

WHO ON THE SCHOOL BOARD WILL STAND UP AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR CONDONING THIS FOOLISH BEHAVIOR!

Letter - Parent discusses school issue

Editor’s note: The Willow Springs school district was given the opportunity to respond to this letter at its time of publication, but superintendent Derrick Hutsell declined comment since it involved a student issue which is mandated to be closed.

The following is a brief summary of an incident that my daughter, Shelby Scaggs, was recently involved in with the Willow Springs High School principal and assistant principal.

On Jan. 13, Shelby drove herself to the WSHS vs. West Plains High School boys’ basketball game. She went in and sat with her dad other family members.

(Assistant principal) Steve Dunlap then approached her in the crowd and told her that she was not allowed to sit there due to a “policy” of the West Plains High School and she needed to move to the student section. She explained that she was sitting with a parent.

Her dad then went to the West Plains High School principal and athletic director, and both stated that it was totally fine for her to sit with her dad. Her dad then returned to the crowd and informed Shelby that it was fine and for her to stay where she was.

Steve Dunlap then returned shortly to the crowd with a police officer, informed Shelby that he was giving her the opportunity to move to the student section or be removed by the officer.

Shelby became extremely upset, embarrassed and started crying. Shelby and her dad, along with the officer and Mr. Dunlap, left the crowd and went down on the floor where (Willow Springs High School principal) Jimalee James was present.

Shelby’s father explained that he talked with the principal and the (athletic director) and both had approved for her to sit with him.

They both agreed that they had approved this, but Mrs. James and Mr. Dunlap insisted that it was not OK for her to sit with a parent since other students were not allowed to and that they were following the policy of the West Plains High School. Shelby then left the building to prevent further embarrassment and humiliation.

As a parent, I went to Mr. Hutsell, who directed me toward the Willow Springs School Board.

I presented this information to them on Feb. 2 with board member Derrick Fredrick speaking up that he was present for this, but was not aware at the time that it was a school-related issue.

He went on to say that this had a huge impact on his elementary-aged daughter who could not understand why the police were in the crowd making Shelby leave.

Both Mr. Dunlap and Mrs. James were allowed to be present while I addressed the school board with my issues, but we were asked to leave while they spoke.

Since the school board meeting, I have received a letter from (board president) Chris Rutledge, stating that basically this is considered acceptable by the Willow Springs School Board.

I would truly like for the members of this community to be informed of this situation, not just for my daughter, but so that they can see that the parents are going to have to speak up to get any changes in our school system.

I have lost my faith in our school, which my family has attended since the 1940s.

This type of incident gives patrons of this district just one more reason to not be willing to pass bond issues to support our school. Why would we want to turn loose more of our money to poor decision makers?

This is INSANE!!! It sounds to me Jimalee James is on a HUGE power trip!! Does she have personal issues with this child? I have children in Willow School and am concerned about our board at this point. Who runs the show up there? Sounds to me that this Chris Rutledge is a zombied robot that does what ever Mrs. James and Mr. Dunlap state. The board needs to remember who is really in charge and that they are in VOTED positions.

Something that REALLY pissed me off was the fact that Dunlap and James got to sit in on what Sherry (Clinton) Hollis had to say but SHE HAD TO LEAVE WHEN THEY SPOKE TO THE BOARD! What a class act.

Shelby is a WS cheerleader. Last fall, Chad Hollis bought a raffle ticket for a chance to win $$ tossing a football at halftime. His ticket was drawn, he won $$, AND DONATED THE $$ BACK INTO THE SCHOOL ACTIVITY FUND!!

What a bunch of freakin' jackasses we have associated with the school district!!

Dunlap is a peon asshole, James is an uppity bitch, and Rutledge is a typical MODOT scab

I don't think name calling is the answer.

I think anyone who thinks this is an issue should be heard in a public forum, namely the next school board meeting. If something is not done it will happen again.

My child is a student at WS but as a parent I feel that it is my right to "parent" my child any time or place I deem fit. I support the family when I say that I would never have allowed Mr. Dunlap or Mrs. James to have removed my child from my care.
If the Hollis family go to the next school board meeting I make a promise to be there and support them verbally. I would urge anyone else who feels as strongly to do the same.
Just My Opinion
