I think I mite have discovered a mitey annoying source of this infestation. We just had the cicada outbreak this summer. No real problem then. Recently, I've had the itch-especially at night - and have bug bombed twice with no results. A neighbor had a bee problem and when we went to investigate discovered that they weren't honey bees but so-called carpenter bees that fly into the cicada holes that are burrowed in the ground. These bees may transmitting the mites to our homes after the cicadas have died off. They are in my home and I'm betting ready to give them the gas!
SOLUTION- eliminate the sources first then treat with pesticides that are effective against mites. Not all are.

Hey Jim, I was living in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan the summer of 2006 I was getting itching but no real bites. We moved to Steamboat Springs Colorado in July of 2006, a much higher elevation and long winters. In August of 2006 I started getting very small, the size of a needle head bites, arms shoulders, and back. The bites grew to be a large as a pea, the area was impossible to remove unlike a regualar cut or scrape. Once winter hit all the bites? went away. The scares that remain are deep.{In January of 2008 we brought all our furniture from a garage in Michigan back to Steamboat. It all went into storage and the temps here went way below freezing several time during the winter} Once the summer thaw came and the temparture was above 70 I started to get them again. Anyhow the bites came back and worse than ever. I have used pest control, moved into a new place and started unpacking. I have had my pets all checked out, had a dermotologist do biopsy's, sent samples to our extension agent....we can't find a thing. The pest control seemed to work for a while 30 days. My doctor perscribed Muriprocin and this cleared everything up....I also shower with Tea Tree bath soap and use straight Tea Tree oil daily. All healed up and wammmm they are back.

The bites are very tiny to start out with, located mostly on my arms, back, shoulders, and I had a few on my neck and upper chest area.

If anyone has a clue or has experienced this please do share.
