How about using part of Willow Grove for a National Cemetary, instead of paying millions of dollars to a developer (probably one of Fast Eddies close friends and supporters)

Count Walker, Not everything regards the current election. If people like you cared more about the local, and less about the National, I promise this would be a better country. This article may concern a Federal Military base, however the main impact is the decisions that are made by our state and local officials.

The fact at hand is that a Homeland Security hub would have less impact and be a more stable decision than giving the base to private enterprise. In addition it lends itself to the local argument of needing Willow Grove to defend the East Coast.

Finally, a reasonable voice. Mr. Taylor is correct. The result of the security hub on the surrounding area should be inutitive in that less housing=less impact on the area. Anyone arguing to the development of 1156 acres into residential or commercial units is obviously not looking at the impact on traffic and utilities.

Wildwing - obviously you don't understand the impact of the state's plan for this area. This land is right next to schools and homes. I live here and the air traffic is already loud. We do not want our community to become polluted and part of an airport just because Rendell wants to appease the fat cats. We live here, he does not and we should get a say in our future. All this bull about the residents wanting the base to remain as close to a military base and possible is a lie. The base is being closed - period. Rendell is trying to guilt people into agreeing with him, urging them to do the patriotic thing, but we see the truth. He wants to turn that ground into an airport and wreck this community and surrounding areas. Thre worst is we have no say - he is just going to do what he wants to do.

"....Rendell supports building a state-run homeland security hub at the Willow Grove base, which the Navy is leaving in 2011 as part of federal efforts to consolidate military installations......"

LOL Just another excuse for Rendell to spend money on his cronies...

Let the place be redeveloped by PRIVATE INDUSTRY and keep the state out of it.

The article leaves more questions unanswered than it answers; which mirrors the way the gov't explained it to the residents.
Are we now to assume that Gov. Rendell wants to handle national security through little, tiny Willow Grove?
If I looked at national security as a national issue, it would make sense to have Dover or McGuire AFB's take that responsibility. They are much larger and better equipted to handle such an important functio for the eastern seaboard.
I am concerned that we are being sold on a concept without all of the facts, but we have to agree to it now. Why the rush? Who has the vested interst in such a hasty process? Can this ever be reversed? If not, I ask again, why the rush?
In closing, they say that the devil is in the details. Gov rendell, when are you going to show us the details?

The State /Gov.want to develop Willow Grove one way and the Township/HLRA another .It comes down to the runway! The Township sees the BRAC as a way to finally get rid of those airplanes and noise so mansions and stores and business parks etc can be built.Forget about the 111th and the army personnal that will stay as per BRAC law.Rendell still will not show us his real plans.Sit back and watch the show(politics).

lets make it a SLOT MACHINE CASINO for year round and have the homeland security emergency evacuation place at the same place. make the profit to go to fix the pot holes and streets. it will be double use for the land and our roads will be drivable without tolls, and the seniors will already be there if there is an emergency

This is fun to watch. The morons who live down there actually want endless houses and more stores to completely cripple their roads and destroy any vestage of quality of life. It's been a base forever, they aren't used to it by now???

was a chinamen. This is such a stupid arguement. The government already owns the property, if they want to turn it over to the state, good. Homeland security base, good idea. This should create more jobs for the area and put to good use the already existing infrastructure. Police and fire needs, WTF does that have to do with a new security center? Thats oxymoronic if you ask me. Turning this over to a private developer to satiate the desire for more taxbase would be BS. The township can barely manage itself let alone another 3,000 homes. Wake up. As far as Fast Eddies involvement, im sure he will be lining his pockets somewhere along this process, but thats politics right?

We can only hope he does "retire" before he does more damage. Fast Eddie Spendell really wants Willow Grove so he can turn it into a country club for his Filthadelphia cronies.

This sets a bad precedent. The military made tough decisions about which bases to keep open, and which bases to close. The committee which made thise decisions was as independent as it could be, to keep out political posturing from every senator and congressman and governor.

Using state money to run the base is not a good idea. The Philadelphia region is strong economically and can withstand the loss of this base. Other bases which are in smaller cities, like Canon or Ft. Dix or the like, would have much more deep impacts on their respective communities. We should let the nature run its course.

Perhaps the airport could be converted to a freight hub? That would be great for the area and it would get congestion out of PHL. Or maybe it could be used for affordable housing? Other options should be explored before letting Rendell and his crooked pals take over.
