A top officer of the Nassau County Police Department was arraigned Thursday on drunken-driving and other charges following a one-car crash last month, prosecutors said.

I am happy to hear this guy is ok and that nobody was hurt. A person in his position should be setting a precedent to younger cops and kids instead of headlines for misconduct.

All cops THINK THEY are ABOVE the LAW. Just happy no one got killed. Just drive around 1200 am to 300 am they go threw all lights and disobey all traffic laws. And hang out in pairs parked at parking lots.

Why don't you try calling 911 or the pct to complain... they will send a car right over.....

i really hate nassau cops. They always come over after I smack my wife around and lock me up. im so sick of having my car impounded when my license is supended and i use my buddies license plates on my car. who do they think they are? whenever I get pulled over im like..go bother someone else. If I want to party with some blow who the f are they to tell me i cant. I also hate that my chances of conviction in court are well above 90% because they are all anal about their procedures and evidence collection. I really agree with you guys.

Nassau cops always ruin a good time, whether I'm buying some crack in the Courtesy Hotel in West Hempstead or just picking up a shiny new Jennings 9mm on Nassau Rd in Roosevelt, they always gotta stop and HARASS me. I ain't bothering anybody, just trying to get by. And yes Jen, they are overpaid, as a matter of fact I heard of a Nassau cop who made $29,000 his first year ! Can u believe that?...$29,000. He must have travelled the world that year, bought a Rolls Royce and an estate in Muttontown.I'm sure his wife and kids had the Christmas of a lifetime! Can u imagine making $29,000? How would I find the time to spend that kind of cash? You're right, they are overpaid, especially when u consider that a guy who works in Eisenhower park and picks up scraps of paper with a stick makes a mere $63,000 a year. Absolutely, your point is well made. I think that garbagemen who work 3 hrs. a day and make upwards of $75,000 a year and get hired because they know somebody are grossly underpaid.I think every taxpayer (or non-taxpayer who rents an illegal basement apartment)should be irate, after all, the tax burden for police services is like what...? a tenth of what we pay for school taxes.?..

Just a couple of comments, the police and DA do not have to present all evidence to a Grand Jury, just that which shows that a crime was probably committed and that the accused probably did it. The rest of the evidence comes out at trial. The cop can not present anything he wants, but can only answer the DAs questions.

To the female poster,

A male officer CAN frisk a female subject, it is not illegal, policy is to use a female officer if possible, but it is not law.

These are both very short answers to very complicated questions, and may not apply in your cases, but it is why I recommended that even before the cases come to trial you seek counseling. You both may be right and get what you want, but maybe not. Regardless of the outcome you will have to move on with your lives. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
