Did anyone read the article about Beaumont Inn and the Dedmans in the Harrodsburg Herald a week or so ago? It was under the section called "What makes Mercer Mercer"
The article was pure praise if I ever saw it, and the article was just another example of how the county seems to place this family on a royal throne.

A very wealthy man, now diseased, bankrolled several drives to bring alcohol to Harrodsburg. His self proclaimed effort was to bring prosperity to his friends, the Dedmans and to make sure that Beaumont could serve alcohol in the Inn and start two saloons. Now the drive to make alcohol available has stalled. Wonder why?

The Dedmans, as long as their family has health insurance, vehicles, and country club dues paid for by their business, and their "workers" sacrifice for them, oh well, we have always and will always be replaceable, they still live the 1800's, and the sad part is we allow it, no insurance, no country club dues, and no vehicles, but i do have one thing else to say, we, the workers make them what they are, without us they are nothing, that is why i quit a long time ago and never give a red penny of my money, nor let my children work there, or eat at their establishment. Karma will come around one day, i want to be in the back of line when they ask Christ how much does it cost to get in the Gates of Heaven.

You do realize that was Ralph Anderson, a Mercer County native, who has been dead now for over two years? You also realize that you too could serve alcohol if you opened a restaurant with 100 seats?

Yes, young man. I know who bankrolled the Dedmans in their push to sell liquor. I just did not want to post his name, especially since he has died. That, of course, was his business. I have heard that he was friends with a Dedman when he was a kid.
My point was that the purpose of his shelling out a ton of money was so that the Dedmans could make a great deal of money by selling the liquid in their restaurant and by opening up a bar. I know this to be true because I heard the gentleman say this. By the way push for alcohol took several votes and I have it on good authority that the final vote was a victory by less than 20 votes and that those who live in the fine houses on Beaumont Avenue pushed it for their friends.
However, that is Democracy. The question really is why a small town in central Kentucky has a "best known family" that appears to have a bigger than life control of the town.

Your point is well taken. The family does live in the 1800s and they drag the rest of the town there with them. And it is a mystery why we let that happen. I cannot begrudge them the benefits that come with running a small business. Insurance, company cars, a company credit card which can be used to buy gasoline, paid travel, paying family members a salary and also profiting from business earnings, and in the case of a restaurant, a bit of free food and drink are all spoils of owning a small business.

Do you supposed that he was diseased before he died? Digger, sometimes the spell check is not what it is cracked up to be.

No one should ever forget you Homer Jay Simpson! Someone should write a book about ALL the things that you and your family have done for Harrodsburg.
However, I like your low profile!

I go to the owl bar all the time. They sell good liquor. It is kinda tame, but it is better than nothing. The food ain't much but as I said the liquor is good and that is why I go. They don't let you get very drunk though. I expect they want to keep the cops away. That is one thing that I don't like. Main thing about bars ought to be being able to kinda get drunk, but not too drunk.

I don't care if the Dedmans run the town. Maybe they will open up a pool hall on main street. If we had open liquor you could shoot pool and drink and have a good time. It anybody can do it, that young Dedman can.
