OMG, just got the nice one call informing me that there is no school tomarrow because of the State Basketball Tourney in Bowling Green. Can we say short notice ??? I am so happy for the Lady Bearcats going to the second round of state, but come on decision makers. Why not just excuse any student or teacher going to the game, instead of inconveniencing so many parents with younger children in school. Not every parent can find child care on such short notice, so that puts them having to miss work. I just do not think much thought was put into this decision.

They had to wait until the outcome of last night's game to determine it. The school my children attend (saffell) offers child care assistance for the day. Maybe check into that.

The game was over last night by 9:30 and the one call does not go out until 10:15 this morning. I know about the child care at Saffell but if I have to pay for three children which is $60, I might as well stay home.

hey ... you must not work. Because this is an expensive inconvenience for those of us who do work and have to find last minute child care for A STUPID BASKETBALL GAME. The board of education is ridiculous.

I don't have a job where I can just call and say "hey, our high school girls rock, so I can't come in today so I can stay home with my elementary kids". I am pretty upset about this. Offer free childcare so it doesn't put the hard working parents in a bind.

What does the ANDERSON COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM have to do with Saffell Street, Emma B. Ward, Robert B. Turner or the Middle School ???? I totally understand it is an honor for the team to be going to state, but this places a GREAT burden on working parents.

Maybe everyone don't have a high paying job that allows them to collect a check and go to the game "representing" Anderson County.

OMG, what do you on a snow day? The Board doesn't give you advanced notice on that.

I applaud the administration for doing this even though it will create a inconvenience. Those basketball young ladies have worked extremely hard to get where they are and deserve the community's support. Take a deep breathe and relax.

A snow day is something unpredictable. A free day for basketball isn't.

Quit being a baby about it and get over yourselves. I am super excited that the kids are out of school and we are all going to cheer those young ladies on even though I don't have a kid that actually plays on the team. I am a working mother, so I do know what I am talking about. If the child care is such a big deal to you, take the day off yourself and spend a nice long weekend enjoying your children. Bitching about it on topix isn't going to change the minds of the BOE. I am ecstatic that they made the decision to allow the kids miss school for the Ladycats basketball. For once, it is about a different sport. Put on your bearcat shirts, drive down to Diddle Arena, and show your children what school pride is.

Since when???? You have a crystal ball or you just that good? Based upon recent forecasts, snow days haven't been that predictable. Stop posting negatives about something that is positive. Call the school board if you feel that strongly about it.

Yes I will take the day off. I am sure that my employer will understand that. As well as the sick patients that will be coming in. Unlike state workers hospital workers don't have 20+ sick days a year.
Again I am overjoyed for these girls. My point is how inconvenient this is.

Can you not read? I said unpredictable. And that's already been done. Thanks for your suggestions though :)

Wow, So you are saying administration should have predicted the girls would make it this far? Hmm, wish it were that easy. Anyway, you are welcome and hope everything works out. Believe I will head to Diddle and see what these young ladies are all about.

This is why anderson county has a high drop out rate. The school puts sports ahead of the books and they always have. No big deal to uneducated morons like most lawrenceburg residents. But a very big deal to people who want their kids to amount to something other than washed up HS basketball or football stars who work at wendys. Thats why you see so many drugged up, wanna be's riding around town in their mama's cars, because since they couldn't hack it in sports they saw no reason to become anything of importance, since the school taught them that. Ugly, vicious cycle.

You couldn't be more ignorant if you tried. The kids who actually play sports, rarely drop out. They have goals and ambition. Why don't you quiz the dropouts about their extra-curricular activities and find out for yourself how wrong you really are.

The board of education puts children first. Thank you to the administrators for caring about the girls basketball team to call off school tomorrow so all the other students and teachers can go support them. You all are great! Go Lady Bearcats! MOST of Anderson Co are cheering you on!:)

Oh yeah look at all the former players that have gone on to be college stars,.........yeah I am still trying to think of one myself ? There used to be some good ballers up in the grove and down in Tyrone.
