Planning on moving in danville area, and wanting to start a hobby farm, mainly to take care of my own families needs. Are there any farmers willing to share their knowledge and ideas with me when I get there? I am in my late 40's and do not know the first thing about raising anything except chickens. Would be interested in turkeys, rabbits, sheep, goats, and maybe 1 or 2 cows and pigs.

Go to the Boyle County Extension Office. They've got a ton of comprehensive information on farming. Good luck!

Ellis are in hock for all of it! I know for a fact they borrowed over a million dollars from the bank! You don't make that kind of money farming. I farm several hundred acres. I know you don't make that kind if money! Beside who care how sharp your equipment is! As long as your farm is neat and well kept who cares! Yeah it's nice to have shiny new tractors but I don't have to have 100,000 dollar tractors! If it does the job, it does the job! A 100,000 dollar tractor is not going to make me a dime more than a 30,000 dollar tractor! I don't have to be a show boat! My cows don't mind a bit me setting out their hay in a mid 90's model tractor!

Sounds like your hating on the Ellises. They are obviously able to make it or they wouldnt be able to operate the way they do. They work hard for the things theyve got. Leave em alone.

I ain't hating on anybody! In fact I think the Ellis' are nice people! I simply stated my opinion! I would rather have my 98 model tractor that is paid for than to be in debt for a new, "sharp" one! Mine does the job and does it well! I don't have junk but I didn't buy it to look pretty I bought it to work! Someone may have a different philosophy than mine but I can make just as mich money on a tractor that is paid for then one I am making payments on! I don't owe for any of my tractors! Instead of going to the bank to make payments I am taking the money to my account! Please don't try to read something into what I said like I am hating on the Ellis'! I am not hating on anyone except for people who have nothing better to do than to start a bunch of bull from nothing! Please find something to do better than twisting words into trouble!

Sounds like you are. So why the defense. One has got to question when men are losing their farms and selling it for pennies. Farmers can't make ends meet. Milk prices, cattle market. You don't get a dime for the dollar they are worth. Let me tell you one thing. When you see fancy equipment. Yes going to the farm show in Louisville, but to dream to have some of the equipment but that dosent pay me and it dosent help if the fanciest is what my cows see or my family. Something smells squeaky. Pretty is as not pretty does. Again when farmers are living just to give it away and fight not to sell when you see this and like other said million dollars borrowed damm farming must be doing better on someones side of the fence than mine,$$$ must be greener or something up and not righted

Lol, Really, if you weren't hating you were coming awfully close to it. You stated they were in " hock", that you knew personally they borrowed over a million dollars, and you made the assumption on what there tractors were worth, and that there tractors weren't paid for. I doubt you know any of this as fact, and if you do why would you put this on a public website? You werent exactly payin them a conpliment there. I don't mean to attack you or call you out but Im just bein honest. You said don't read into this more than what I should or twist words. Your words and tone speak volumes for themselves. They seem to be doing good and I for one am glad to see them succeed.
