Goodwill

Who ever heard of pricing a table and chairs and then pricing the leaves that go to the table extra? I mean I know times are hard that is why people shop Goodwill, but to out and out rip people off is just wrong. Only in Lawrenceburg I know!

I've been known to browse Goodwill for the occasional bargain, lamp, vintage clock, or piece of antique furniture to refinish. Also it's for a good cause. I quit going to the one here in town as they seem to price things a lot higher than in Lexington, or Harrodsburg.

I still support Goodwill with my wallet and with the occasional donation. I just don't shop at the one here in town.

So I'm not the only one who's noticed that...

I don't even buy paperbacks there anymore because most of them are stickered for $1.50 now, instead of the "normal" 50 cents. When I asked why, I was told it was "to stop dealers from buying the better ones and reselling them." I don't know about dealers but it's sure stopping me!!

If they're that worried about someone buying & reselling paperback books, I guess they use the same justification to jack up the prices on other items...

Go to Linda's at least she'll donate to the needy. Her things are always priced the same, regardless of the brand. It might be jammed packed but she's uniform. Goodwill kills me, people give it to them for free and they make the jack selling free stuff. Dont ask them for something if a house burns or anything bc they WONT give you a break. Pathetic!

Yes we do get stuff for free. But we do have a budget to make. And rent, electric and employees to pay. All the money we make goes to Goodwill Industries. Not in the "he" you are referring to as the manager's pocket. HE is the assistant manager...

Bed bugs are not in the lawrenceburg store either. As with anywhere.. used furniture carries the risk of having bed bugs. But we do check our stuff and make sure its sell worthy.

I'm sorry our prices are not what you want them to be. But if you want something for free...like you said shop the yard sales where they are making extra money rather than money to run a business.

Goodwill is a non-profit organization. They aren't getting rich by selling donations. They are taking what they make and giving it back to communities. The new manager is a female. They check every piece of upholstered furniture before letting it in the store, or at least most employees do. The store is sprayed for bugs on a regular basis.

Goodwill cannot help someone directly if their house has burned because of fraud, but they do supply vouchers to community action agencies that are available in such cases. Does Walmart do that? NO.
This is probably a waste of my time because this is Topix after all. This site is full of uneducated idiots who don't check the facts before they spit some trash talk.

Dont even start with walmart as much as they donate to this community.

Really? Like import everything from China, and killing many local, small town businesses? Wal-Mart was a good outfit while Sam Walton was alive. Today, they are just another corporation out to make a profit. Anything they "do for" this community comes directly out of their advertising budget.
