The Ellis are good, hardworking people. I hope this thread wasn't meant to bash them. The original post Had a jealous tone to it. They have worked for everything they have and are trying to make a go of it farming. Which is a big risk and I have a lot of respect for them. They, like all farmers, are not asking for a handout from the government. There workin for everything they get.

Just curious during financially hard times on people and when you hear about people buying up farms. The same things questions were asked about Anderson when he came in and buying up all the land and putting up the fences with the barn. So many people wondered who he was and where can one get all the money to buy up all the land. Same was said about Wilkinson when he was buying land, but he wasn't buying it for himself but what think when he came out back when was International people? So here is someone buying land up when farms are now hard to farm much less buy.

Just because these are financially hard times for you or others doesn't mean it is true across the board. The stock market is at an all time high. Interest rates are at an all time low. Banks will lend if you have good credit and the land is fairly priced. Farms can make money. Even if they couldn't make money, it might be a better decision to put money into a hard asset than seeing it linger in a bank where it will not keep up with the real rate of inflation.

I'm thrilled local people are buying local land. Personally, I hope they farm it forever.

You can't compare Mr Anderson to any other situation really. His was a story of a self made man that you just dont see everyday. He made a fortune and had one of the largest engineering firms in the country. He also grew up poor from what I've heard and he did about a well for himself as a person possibly could. And the same was true with Wallace wilkinson. He made his money elsewhere although he eventually filed for bankruptcy and his story didn't end as well. But they bought land as an investment. Who could blame them or even question why they would? And they both did a lot for Mercer county and the community in general.

I don't recall people questioning Mr Anderson "buying up land" and
everyone in Mercer county knew exactly who he was. Also, just so you know, the economy was doing pretty dang good when he built the barn.

Your right. Nobody questioned who he was or what he was doing. Everybody knows why Ralph Anderson bought up so much land. Because he could! He had more money than he knew what to do with!
