I am moving from NY for my job and have 2 young kids about to start elementary school. What is the education level in Lawrenceburg like and how are the schools?

Contrary to what hometown know it all gossips might say.... The school system here is wonderful. It has some of the same financial and leadership issues that all school systems have - that's part of humans being in charge, mistakes are made. There are WONDERFUL teachers in our district and they REALLY care! I suggest trying to move into the Turner district. Top scores of the elementary schools. Best wishes to you! |

Judged: 1 1 Hopefully there are better programs in place now then when I first moved here. NY schools are more advanced then here, so I would suggest that you see if your children could get into some advanced classes to that they are not getting a repeat of what they have already learned. Welcome to Ky, things are definitely a slower pace and for the most part you will find friendly people here. Will find some jerks as well though lol |

Judged: 1 1 What profession are in currently? I have taught in three different states in both city and rural districts. The Anderson Co School District is ahead of many districts in technology and STEM implementation. What exactly are you comparing educationally and to where? |

Why would you even want to live here???? YUK! |

Judged: 1 1 Lawrenceburg is a nice community but I simply have NOTHING good to say about the educational system here! |

Well let me say if you like things like drugs, hookers, overweight, disrespectful , lazy, wasteful, ungrateful, basic backwoods, cow tipper this is spot for you. But if you do still move down here to the redneck round up don't buy a home , that will make it easier to run back to a real state .

Now for town it's looks like most in ky dirty with trash, and buildings standing empty . The police are a joke . But town is full of walmart shoppers like you see in the e-mail jokes you get from friends. Most can't drive when the roads are dry so forget it if it snows. The roads are old and not plowed or repaired timely, water and power are only on if its warm and no wind. There no dining or nightlife , well you be like most of kids here wondering thru Walmart or sit out in parking lot sorting bathsalts till cops run them off . As for schools the kids you see in town will tell you all you need to know , overweight , disrespectful, pregnant, lazy , drug hooked soon to be warfare dependent or cons. The older people are nice meaning 55 + they for the most part still have respect for others. So I know of I had it to do over there no way I would have moved to Kentucky because all I said is same all over the state..Hope this helps and the sad part is all I have said is true.

I looked at all of those figures on this website and it looks like we are running in the middle of the pack in most categories. I remember a time when Ky schools were the lowest in the country. I have seen a vast improvement over the last 20 years. Things are not perfect but they are going in the right direction. Take it from someone who has sent kids through the system and on to degrees in college. They are equipped to educate your kids. By the way I have grandkids starting and I am not worried.

Kentucky ranks well beneath New York....go back your kids would do much better in N.Y.

You also have to look at what the families' future educational intentions in an area are. Anderson County has many families who have no intention of sending their kids on for college degrees, and therefore don't place as high of a priority on school, studying, homework, or test scores. When you look at states whose populations are less rural, you are going to find a higher percentage of high school students who are competing for scholarships and college acceptance. Families there give academics a higher priority and those kids have higher test scores. I see what my kids are doing and I am impressed with the rigor. I help them with areas in which they struggle because one teacher can't address all 20 to 30 kids' individual needs. My kids score well. I am satisfied with the education my kids are receiving. My guess is that if you stay on top of what is going on, are realistic in what you expect one teacher to do, and do your part at home, then you and your kids will be happy here. Lawrenceburg has its fair share of social problems and nay-sayers, as you've seen, but there are also some very lovely families here who will make you feel welcome in our community.

I moved here 19 years ago. The city had grown steadily as the years have passed. It is a great place to live.
Now that being said. It is rural. We have Walmart, fast food, Kroger and some pretty good Mexican restaurants. A few good burger places and the usual pizza haunts.but there is nothing for the kids to do here.(i mean outside of school and sports) no skating rink, movie theater, bowling alley or pool. There are two great parks with all you need. The next closest city Frankfort, is only about 15-20 minutes away and has all of this. Yes the police are a joke for the most part. There are some exceptions. We have a wonderful public library. If you have pets, there are 2 vet offices. Both are great. Not much to speak of food wise, but again Frankfort is only a few minutes away. Now the schools. Sigh. They are pretty good. Just like everywhere cutback and overcrowded classrooms are taking their toll. Teachers are spread thin and frustrated.(no I am not a teacher) Many paying for supplies for their students out of their own pockets. But my son went to ECC, Saffle St, the Middle School and High School here. Most of his teachers were great. Just like all over there are always a few that are sub par. I love living here. Just like everywhere else, it is not perfect. the cost of living down here is so much lower. The pace is slower and NO people can not drive down here in any type of bad weather. Nor do they have the same type of snow removal you are used to. But all in all It is home now. Good luck with your move!! |
i have to tell you it is not to late for you to move your ass back to wherever you came from. |
