<quoted text>How many LPC/Board meetings did you attend.. Closing this building will save almost 500,000 in addition over 8million down the road in renovation costs. If Helan Dedman wants to save the building then let her. The YMCA looked at the building 4 yrs ago when Mike Fryer was in town. He like other YMCA Board members liked the building.
Funny that comment #20 was deleted. It said that I have been to enough meetings to know BS when I hear it. I'd like to see the math on that 8 million dollar estimate. Regardless if the building is closed or remains open, the district will still own it. Deserted buildings tend to quickly fall into disrepair and become eyesores in the community. One should also take that estimate with a grain of salt. Could the party who came up with that estimate have something to gain by closing that building and adding on to the new high school? The district should also look at being more conservative with tax payer money. It appears that there is a hefty bill coming due.

It is a mess. Building on to the high school while they are using buildings with empty class rooms. Coaches paid a teaher's salary when they don't teach. Shortage of text books. Y looking to build and old Harrodsburg property soon to be sitting there empty. Worse of all, state achievement test in the tank and parents being thrilled with As and Bs and the school watering down the grading scale so that a kid with half a brain can show up with As and Bs when he has actually earned bs and cs. And almost nobody flunks. Big insurance debt comming due and Frankfort wanting the dropout age to be raised to 18 so that the school can contend with uninterested kids for two more years.

yes, it sounds terrible & .is it was like that somewhat when I was in school. Certain ones didn't & probaly still don't know what oceans bordered what side I heard a 18 yr old girl that had just graduated and she said " yeah, we're going to the pacific in florida "and I was shocked. I knew the oceans and borders by 7 yrs old. Hell , look in the phone book . Should be a map of the U.S there. Or it use to be...

As a parent of A senior in the Merer County Senior High School I often wonder who is to blame that our kids are not taught the things they need to know to get into college...I know my daughter has taken the act several times and is having such a hard time passisng the reading section. Its not that she cant read, its because she cant read fast enought and finish all the question in that amount of time...Several year ago she was having trouble in algerba class,as a parent i spent several hours trying to help her, but couldnt figure it out (and I felt so bad.)The school would not allow her to bring her book home because there was not enough books to go around.Hell even when I was in school cursive writing was taught in the second grade now its not even taught...I just dont even get the school system any more.

Its sad the way our school system is being run!!! We have kid s that can't bring home books cause they don't have enough but hell let's build another 2 million onto a 29 million dollar school!!! We need people with brains running our schools, I said from the beginning they needed a superintendent from another place!!!The good candidate was run off from the horror that takes place in our schools!! Parents you all would be shocked over things going on in our schools, don't get me wrong we have some great teachers but we also have teachers, coaches & administration BULLYING our kids!!!Can you believe "the guidence counselor" threatened a student with help on scholarships & knowledge of getting into college all because this student picked her sons basketball #!! Told the student it would be a shame if she couldn't help him get into college next year!!!! I mean REALLY! Threaten a kids future over a Jersey number & yet the superintendent never bat an eye over this cause that would cause problems for one in "the click" So until parents stand up, our kids are gonna pay the ultimate price!W have some very smart & talented kids but they're being deprived from good education, its sad to hear when a kid is so ready to get out of school cause of the people that run it! Should be the best time of their lives!

Parents need get involved, don't blame the schools. Besides you should educate yourself.. The money used to build the classrooms are from a different fund. Not the funds for school books. Our State government cut funding for school books years ago.

I never thought that the 2 schools should have never merged. It was a very bad mistake. I went to HHS & thought it was a great school.I have no kids in school now but I have two pay school taxes which I think stinks. I thank God tht my kid graduated from a real school. Boyle County High. I feel that she would have never accomplished what she did had she stayed at HHS or even went to MCHS. I think that the school system now is not very good. Yes, sports seems to be more important to the school instead of teaching the kids. Most kids today can barely read or write their own name. I feel that they should go back to the basic teaching. Seriously how many kids today is actually going to use Algerba & Calculose (sp) & all the other crap that they make them take. Face it the way things are going now there isn't going to be any jobs out there for most of the kids that are graduating in the next few years. There are barely any now. As far as the library what was wrong with the old? Face it they are ripping us a new one. I am tried of paying all of these taxes. I hope that Mercer County are proud of themselves.

The other day, my daughter came home upset and I could tell by looking at her she was upset by looking at her...I tried to talk to her but I couldnt get her to talk to me about it. So I decided to get up the next morning and call the schools guidance counselor. I have left several voice messages this week, and no responce..I thought maybe she could get my daughter to speak up and get something out of her....Now I know she was at school because I asked my daughter...Just shows you that the staff and teachers dont care about your children at the school at Mercer County Senior High School...

Let's get back on topic. I understand that a petition is circulating to keep the old Harrodsburg High School. Before anyone signs it one should ask what the purpose would be to save it. Would it be useful? Would the school system keep ownership? Should we keep it because it is an old building? If people are trying to force the school system to keep the buildings are they doing it for personal reasons in spite of the cost and therefore damage to the real purpose of a school, which is of course educating the kids.

HHS FAN I too went to HHS and it was fun and good; WAY BACK THEN. Things change...The schools merged. Get over it!!! It's time that the kids of Harrodsburg and Mercer Co. are now offered more clssses and classes that will better prepare them for the future. Teachers can only work with what they are given to work with. The state cut the budgets not only at Mercer but all over the state and many schools are facing the same thing we are here. Mercer now has a good superintendent that cares about all students. The former superintendents cared only about lining their own pockets and not about the kids. Give Mr. Davis time. Noah didn't build the arch overnight and Mercer's problem can't be fixed over night. Don't know who you considered the good candidate, but apparently they weren't too good...The parents of Harrodsburg and Mercer need to be more involved with their children and be held accounatable and take some responsibility for their childrens education as much as the teachers; instead of drawing welfare and foodstamps because they are too lazy to work and want to blame others for there ignorance... Instead or helping you want to get on here and show your total ignorance. All the while their children are just as ignorant and don't try or want to try to better themselves. As far as the jersey deal. I have my doubts you even know what you are talking about. More than likely whoever this involves won't end up in college anyways...and besides that the guidance counselor has helped more kids get into college than you even know. I feel sorry for you. You sure didn't learn much while attending HHS about getting your facts straight. Again, don't blame it all on the school. Learn some facts about what's going on. I hate it that the school may be closing. But,it is an OLD building...Focus on what matters. When the Lord comes back this all will be gone anyways!

Thank you! Someone on here has some common sense and gets the real picture. Everyone wants to keep the building for historical reason I gather. Then let the historical society buy it and do with it as they see fit. HHS is gone and it is not coming back. I am a HHS graduate and loved it. But times change. With the state cutting schools budgets there may be more cuts looming in the darkness. Monticello Independent as well as Jackson Co. both have been taken over by the state because of no money or lack there of. When there are budget cuts everyone suffers. Things have to change. Don't blame Mercer Co. Schools for the building problems. It is inevitable that things will and must change. Change is scary!

First off I never went to HHS, I went to BCHS,HAHA.
As for a Guidance Counselor goes she doesnt get kids get into college, its the student themselves that get into college, by studying, making thoses good grade an scoring high on college entrance exams..The only thing a counselor does is help them make out there schedules, helping them decide what college to attend that fits there major they might be going into. Its also there job to help the student out if they are having problems in others areas such as bully or being picked on, or self esteem problems. You have no right getting on here telling people they dont know what that are talking about or telling them to get there facts straights.MAYBE ITS YOU"FACT IS" THAT NEED TO GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT.

Tear HHS down. The place is useless now with the rooms too small, freezing in winter, and burning in summer. The way they have schools organized is ridiculous. As for the education, its about the students as much as teachers. I'm a recent grad and am going to UK for practically nothing because I worked my ass off in school and asked for helps when I needed it. If your child can't read by high school, that's more on the parents and child for not either finding our the disability or not giving a crap about education. By the time the schools merged, which I was a part of, there was barely a rivalry left just one crappy school against another. People can get on here and say that its a shame but the school buildings are packed and if an addition to a new school is possible by getting rid of a miserable one, by all means do it. Don't get on here and spout about old times because those don't coount when it comes to looking forward to the future education of this and later generations.
